Supervisor Spotlight:
Angela Brooks-Livingston LCMHCS, CCS, LCAS
I am a child of the Universe having a human experience. I am a Leo rising, Sagittarius sun, Cancer moon who loves deeply, feels intensely, and leads with love. I am a partner, mom, sister, best friend, daughter. I identify as White, q***r, genderq***r, non-disabled, neurodivergent person. I am a Spiritual Guide, Sacred Space holder, and ordained Minister. I am an activist, licensed counselor, and educator.
I approach counseling from a liberation, anti-oppression therapy perspective. I’m conscious of systems oppression and how this may be playing a role in your struggles. We do not live in a vacuum, the oppression in society has an impact on our mental health. I encourage mindfulness, skills development, and insight into your own healing.
As a therapist, I specialize in working with the LGBTGEQIAP+ community, particularly transgender and gender diverse clients. I work with many q***r folx who have experienced religious trauma. I found typical counseling approaches do not facilitate deep healing from religious trauma. I call upon my gifts as a Sacred Space Holder and spiritual practices to help folx heal from religious trauma. I have worked with trans/gender expansive clients for 14 years and provide continuing education trainings for counselors who want to be competent in working with trans/gender-diverse clients.
I hold licensure as a LCMHCS, LCAS, and CCS. My model of supervision is the Bernard Discrimination Model, which means throughout supervision I am evaluating my supervisees’ development, knowledge, skills, emotional response, and professional growth. Additionally, I also integrate anti-oppression and liberation psychology tenets into supervision. During a supervision sessions, I may provide emotional support, consultation, education, or skills building, depending on what arises in the supervision session. My goal is for supervision to be a safe space where supervisees can discuss anything affecting their work as a counselor.
