Watching this case has been absolutely heartbreaking. As a mom, I truly cannot understand how someone could get to the point of harming their own children. I have never once looked at my babies and felt the urge to hurt them — They are my entire world and I would be completely lost without them!
At the same time, postpartum depression and other perinatal mental health conditions are VERY real, and I don’t think society talks enough about how mentally, emotionally, and physically exhausting motherhood can be. You’re expected to take care of everyone else’s needs while often neglecting yourself for weeks, months, even years! Pouring from your cup even when it’s completely dry — I get it! Running on little sleep, carrying the weight of the world, making the appointments, going back and fourth to sports and sometimes feeling completely alone even when you’re not alone is mentally draining.
This isn’t about excusing her actions by ANY means. All children deserve to be protected, especially by their mother. BUT I do think we everyone needs to have more honest conversations about maternal mental health, recognize the warning signs, and make sure moms have access to support before they reach a breaking point. Postpartum shows up differently for everyone, some more than others.
Personally, I struggled with terrible postpartum depression after my first. Very very bad. I was 18 years old and did not know all about the hormonal crash right after birth. I didn’t understand the warning signs of postpartum depression — I needed help and thankfully I had people in my corner to help me get the help I needed. My second baby I experienced it as well just not as severe as my first thankfully.
This time around has been COMPLETELY different. I was able to encapsulate my own placenta, and for me, I’ve been smooth sailing. I feel amazing mentally, and it’s been a night-and-day difference in my own postpartum experience. My mood is amazing, and when I need a pick me up I just take another capsule! It’s 100% all natural — perfect for a healing momma. Why put antidepressants in your body when you have your own natural healing method that works for YOUR body only?!
While I know everyone’s experience is different and there’s no guarantee it works the same for everyone, it’s something I highly recommend looking into, especially if you’re a first time momma!
Please check on the moms in your life. Sometimes the strongest-looking women are the ones carrying the heaviest burden in silence 🤍 We are supposed to be a team through motherhood!
If anyone ever needs to talk, vent, scream whatever it is, I am always here!!
