Your brain deserves just as much love as the rest of your body! 🧠💙
This Alzheimer's & Brain Awareness Month, here are 7 healthy habits that can help protect your brain and reduce the risk of cognitive decline:
1️⃣ Challenge Your Brain - Be curious! Learn a new skill, try something artistic, or pick up a hobby. Challenging your mind has both short and long-term benefits for your brain.
2️⃣ Physical Exercise - Get moving! Walking, dancing, gardening... whatever works for you. Regular movement increases blood flow to the brain and body.
3️⃣ Stay Connected - Social connection is powerful medicine. Nurture your relationships and stay engaged with your community.
4️⃣ Healthy Weight - Talk to your healthcare provider about a healthy weight for you. Eating well, exercising, and sleeping better all work together to help.
5️⃣ Restorative Sleep - Consistency is key! Go to bed and wake up at the same time every day, including weekends, to regulate your internal clock. Aim for 7 to 8 hours a night. Your brain heals while you sleep, so protect that rest.
6️⃣ Fuel for the Mind - More vegetables, leaner proteins, and less processed foods can help reduce your risk of cognitive decline. Small swaps, big impact.
7️⃣ Manage Diabetes - Uncontrolled blood sugar affects brain health. Type 2 diabetes can often be prevented or managed through diet, exercise, and medication if needed.
If you have a loved one living with Alzheimer's or dementia, these habits still make a meaningful difference in their daily quality of life. Andrea's Angels caregivers are there to help make them part of everyday routines, from encouraging movement and social engagement to supporting healthy meals and restful nights.
