Thank you to the California Health Care Foundation for inviting AHS CEO Julia Liou to join an important panel discussion at their recent conference "Trust is Vital: Building a Trustworthy Health Care System in California."

How do we build trust when fear and uncertainty can keep people from seeking the care they need?

Liou shared with health care leaders and policymakers how AHS builds and maintains trust with the communities we serve in the midst of shifting policies and uncertainties. At AHS, this work means meeting communities where they are at, such as our recent Patient Townhall with nearly 1,000 attendees, and remaining rooted in our mission to provide care and services for our most vulnerable children, families, and elders.

Asian Health Services CEO Julia Liou joined fellow health care leaders as a panelist at Health Evolution Connect 2026 in Nashville on September 28 for “Inside the Nation’s Largest Primary Care System: How Community Health Centers Are Solving Our Healthcare Crisis.”

Led by Dr. Kyu Rhee of National Association of Community Health Centers, the panel also featured Kofi Essel, MD, MPH, FAAP, of Elevance Health Foundation; Benjamin Kornitzer, MD, of Aetna, a CVS Health Company; and Veronica Clarke of TCA Health, Inc. NFP.

The conversation explored how stronger partnerships between payers and community health centers can improve outcomes, expand access, strengthen patient experience, and lower the total cost of care. Liou stated, “It’s important for us to come together to address the factors and conditions that determine whether our populations can actually be healthy.”

We’re proud to bring the community health center perspective to this national conversation. Stronger partnerships start with listening to the communities we serve.

For 50 years, AHS Patient Meetings have been a force for hearing from our patients and sharing important information that could affect their care. As always, we provide in-person simultaneous translation, asserting that language access is a health care right. This year’s meeting was another powerful reminder that our communities deserve care, education, and spaces where they are listened to and uplifted.

This year, we had 900 attendees – a record-high attendance. Through headset interpretation in nine Asian languages – Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Korean, Tagalog, Khmer, Burmese, Karen and Karenni - patients received critical information on Medi-Cal changes, the upcoming election, community resources, and civic engagement. The meeting also created a vital forum for patients to raise concerns, ask questions, and have their voices heard. 900 participants. Nine languages. One community standing together for health, dignity, and the right to be heard.

The gathering featured a patient art and cultural exhibition, vaccinations, legal resources, and lunch for all.

For more than 50 years, AHS Patient Meetings have united the Asian Health Services community through education, civic engagement, and community dialogue. For this year's meeting, a record 900 people attended with dozens of interpreters translating the program into 9 languages live through headsets. Thank you to Samuel Merritt University for featuring Asian Health Services' Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) at the Transforming Care Symposium. Through a panel discussion with healthcare leaders and changemakers we explored what’s possible for the future of aging and reimagining care for older adults.

Asian Health Services’ PACE Medical Director, Dr. Alice Mao, and Chief Growth Officer, Judy Li, DrPH, MBA, shared how through SpringLight Health we will be bringing coordinated, compassionate care to life through interdisciplinary teams and a whole-person approach.
