It’s not always fitness.
This time of year, I start hearing the same thing:
“My horse just feels tired.”
“They feel heavier than usual.”
“They aren’t bouncing back like they were a few months ago.”
And the first assumption is often that they need more conditioning.
Sometimes that’s true.
But sometimes they’re already working hard.
They’re showing.
They’re training.
They’re traveling.
They’re sweating more.
They’re spending energy just dealing with the heat and humidity.
Florida summers ask a lot of horses.
The longer I do this, the more I think recovery deserves the same attention as conditioning.
A horse that isn’t recovering well can start feeling flat, stiff, or harder to keep together, even when they’re fit enough for the job.
That’s where modalities like massage, PEMF, and Rib Entrapment Syndrome Therapy/Core Aligned Therapy can help support comfort, movement, and adaptation to workload.
Does your horse usually get stronger as the summer goes on, or do they start feeling harder to maintain?
