Medal Monday

Another weekend of showing up, putting in the work, and discovering what’s possible.

Patrick raced Cal Tri Los Angeles and took 2nd in his age group to close out an incredible season. Consistent racing, continued learning, and progress that’s paying off.

Toni ran her local 5K in Kissimmee, Florida, with a pacing strategy that allowed her to run the entire race and finish feeling strong. That final feeling matters. Confidence today carries into the next start line.

Micah represented YogiTriathlete in Málaga, Spain, cheering on athletes at Ironman 70.3 Málaga in his YT hoodie. Community isn’t just about racing. It’s about showing up for others chasing their dreams.

On the 1:1 Coaching side, Anne tackled the Surf the Murph 25K trail adventure, feeding the fire and focusing on one step at a time. When the miles get hard, bring your mind back to the moment in front of you. Then take the next step.

Laura joined a fun-run 5K at Carleton College during parents’ weekend. She’s already running with Rogue, her dog, and building toward what’s next: Canicross!

Different athletes. Different goals. One shared practice: train the body, develop the mind, and keep showing up.

This is YogiTriathlete Coaching. Our Awake & Ready process brings mind and body together so athletes can meet each moment with intention.

Luca wrapped up his triathlon season at the modified Mission Bay Triathlon this weekend. With the swim canceled and a 1.2-mile run taking its place, he adapted to the day and smashed it.

After the race, he shared that he felt really happy with his performance. And that’s what we’re celebrating. Not just the result, but the feeling of showing up, giving your best, and walking away happy with what you put out there.

Sometimes, that’s more than enough.

Manny, part of our Endurance Squad, crushed a 10K and set a new PB by three minutes on a course he raced last year!

And what he shared afterward is exactly why we do this work:

“There is no doubt that the YogiTriathlete mindset work is helping me. I wrote something in my journal when I heard Jess say it a few weeks ago: ‘Merge your awareness with the activity, the definition of flow.’ This is often on my mind. Thank you both!”

Manny is putting the work into practice. Training the mind to stay present, bringing awareness to the moment, and allowing the body to do what it’s been trained to do. Three minutes faster, and a deeper understanding of what makes performance possible.

At YogiTriathlete, we train the mind and body together through our Awake & Ready process. Because performance isn’t just about getting physically stronger. It’s learning how to show up, stay present, and meet the moment in front of you.

Sometimes that means a new PB. Sometimes it means crossing the finish line feeling happy and proud. Both are worth celebrating.

Yoga is soft?

Tell that to an endurance athlete who can move well, breathe under pressure, and stay composed when things get hard.

A calm, mobile athlete is a hard one to beat.

There’s a massive missing piece in traditional endurance training. We see it every day.

Athletes are following the workouts, hitting the numbers, putting in the hours — and still struggling with confidence, consistency, burnout, race-day ex*****on, recovery, or simply enjoying the process.

Training the body is only part of the work.

The rest is learning how to work with your mind, your nervous system, your breath, your energy, and your awareness.

We’ve been doing this work for more than 20 years as endurance athletes, coaches, students and teachers.

We don’t teach theory. We live it.

That’s why we built Endurance Squad. And you don’t have to leave your coach to be here.

Keep your coach. Add the missing layer.

Or build from one of our structured endurance training plans and have us in your corner along the way.

Inside Endurance Squad:

• Triathlon, running and endurance training plans

• Direct access to our founders Jess + BJ

• Weekly live coaching

• Endurance Mindset, breathwork, mobility and nervous system practices

• Yoga, meditation and recovery resources

• A community of athletes committed to doing the work differently

This is not about adding more training.
It’s about training the whole athlete.

Endurance Squad is open. $99/month.

Come train with us. Click the link in our bio to claim your spot and get the missing link today.

Medal Monday

Karen, Endurance Squad, gave us one of those race recaps that reminds us why we do this work. Her mantra going into the race was simple: “I am positive and grateful.” The weekend gave her plenty of opportunities to take the exit ramp. Travel didn’t go as planned, there was no cell service to access her usual YT meditations, her goggles were unusable, and she ended up swimming without them.

Then, running into T1, her leg cramped, she slipped on the wet grass and took a hard fall on the concrete. For a moment, DNF looked like a pretty reasonable option.

Instead, she told herself, “Get to the start line of the bike.” And she did. From there, it was “long, strong, calm” and “be here now.” One pedal stroke, one moment, one step at a time.

She crossed the finish line crying. That’s more than finishing a race. It’s training the mind to meet the moment you’re actually in, not the one you thought you were going to have.

Amy is an Endurance Squad member and 1:1 mindset coaching client, and she has shown up for the work. She’s taken advantage of so much of what Endurance Squad offers — the training, the community, the coaching and the mindset practices — and she’s been incredibly consistent in putting that work into action.

So when she shared this after her 10K in Portland: “This was the best I have ever felt mentally going into a race. Zero regret or dread.”

That is a big deal.

Because the work isn’t just about getting stronger physically. It’s about changing your relationship with the experience — noticing the old patterns, creating space, and learning that you can meet race day differently.

Zero regret. Zero dread. That’s a race-day win before the race even starts.
We’re so proud of you, Amy.

And Brendan, working with BJ through 1:1 Coaching, set a new 10K PB at the Ocean Road 10K, running 42:18 at 6:49/mile. He paced it beautifully with focus, patience and a calm mind. The work started on the meditation cushion, banking a 60-day meditation streak that is obviously reaping rewards.

A season of teaching yoga at IRONMAN events showed us a few things.

ONE: Athletes want this.

They are ready for it. They’re showing up. At these classes, we’ve had 70+ athletes on the mat before race day. Let’s double that in 2027.

TWO: Athletes need this.

Boy, are we stiff.

The demands of endurance sport are real, and immobility does not equal wellness or longevity in sport. Athletes need ways to recover, breathe, move better, regulate their nervous systems, and actually inhabit the bodies they’re asking so much of.

THREE: This is YogiTriathlete

After 10 years of showing up and giving this work everything we had, YogiTriathlete was given the space to do what it was built to do.

Live, breathe, teach and coach at the intersection of endurance sport, mindset, nervous system regulation, movement and recovery.

This our lane.
And we’re just getting started.

Already have your training? Already have a coach? Looking for the missing layer?

Endurance Squad is where we bring all of this together — coaching, training, mindset, movement, recovery and a community of athletes who want to go deeper.

$99/month.

Our coaching meetup is tonight. Come meet your coaches, ask your questions, and see what this is about.

A few big experiences to celebrate this week.

Luca, our youngest athlete, took 1st in his age group at the Double Peak Challenge 10K. This has become one of his favorite races, and Saturday he ran 56:22, good for 13th male overall out of 140. His first race here in 2022 was 1:24. Almost 30 minutes of progress in five years. Consistency works.

Kristen Kelly took on the Vermont 50K in muddy, rainy conditions as the nor’easter moved through the East Coast. With a shorter-than-ideal lead-up, she showed up ready to have an experience and put her mindset work into practice. She finished 7th in her age group, coming close to her previous time from a few years ago. She said that mindset pulled her through the final miles. That’s the work.

Manny, an Endurance Squad member, took on the Bear Valley Sprint Triathlon in the Sierra Nevada mountains and put together a strong race. He continues to build experience, confidence, and belief in what’s possible when the mind and body are trained together. Keep going, Manny. We’re excited to see what’s next.

And then there was New York.

Coach BJ and Jess were at Jones Beach to lead yoga for about 50 Ironman 70.3 New York athletes Friday morning. They breathed, moved, and prepared together. Then the race was canceled.

No start line. No finish line. A lot of disappointment.

But there was still an experience to have. Sometimes what we planned doesn’t happen. We can stay stuck in what was supposed to be, or stay open to what comes next.

Show up. Stay present. Manage the moment. See what’s possible from here.

That’s YogiTriathlete Coaching.

Train the body. Develop the mind. Build a community that keeps you moving forward.

Episode 467: How Mike Reilly Turns Finish Lines Into Life Lessons

Mike Reilly said it best - the finish line is never the end.

It’s the start of your next chapter.

Save this for the day you need the reminder.

We talked about time, disappointment, and why a “bad” race can still be a win. Because the real question is not:
* Did I hit the number?
* Did I look perfect?
* Did it happen fast enough?

It’s:
* Did I keep going?
* Did I grow?
* Did I become someone I’m proud of?

That shift changes everything.
Progress > perfection.
Ownership > excuses.
Forward > standing still.

Mike’s new book, Finding Your Finish Line: Lessons on Discovering Hope, Heart, and Yourself in Life’s Toughest Miles, captures the essence of resilience, courage, and purpose. He emphasizes that not all finish lines are tied to races; rather, they symbolize personal milestones and transformations in life.
