Not necessarily. School vision screenings are designed to catch major, obvious vision problems quickly, usually by checking distance visual acuity with an eye chart. What they don't check: eye teaming, focusing ability, depth perception, or the overall health of the eye. A child can pass that screening once school starts and still struggle with reading, headaches, or eye strain because of an issue the screening was never built to catch.

A comprehensive eye exam covers *everything.* It's the difference between confirming a child can read a chart across the room and confirming their eyes are actually working together the way they need to for a full school day of reading, writing, and screen time up close.

That anxious feeling during "better one, better two" is one of the most common worries patients bring up. Good news: there's no wrong answer to give!

That part of the exam uses a phoropter, the device with all the lens options you look through, to narrow down your exact prescription. Some comparisons show a clear difference. Others look nearly identical, and when that happens, it usually means both lenses are already close to correct.

If you're unsure which one is sharper, say so. Your doctor will run the comparison again with a different pair until the picture is clear.
