Our first ever 𝕯𝖊𝖆𝖙𝖍 O𝖚𝖙𝖘𝖎𝖉𝖊 𝖙𝖍𝖊 L𝖎𝖓𝖊𝖘 event was SO incredibly FUN !!

Deep, meaningful conversations flowed at the Huntington Memorial Library with *Shine On Death Doula*, Anne’s Conversation Cards as prompts, while GORGEOUS coloring was happening!! New friends and connections were made while enjoying tea and red velvet cake-bites (made by Anne).

We had our first Death Event Doggy!! Thanks for coming, Tia!!! 🤍🐾🤍

Pat’s AMAZING coloring page was truly a work of art, as were many other attendees’ pieces! So impressed!

Huge thanks to Ariel @ the library for always welcoming these important death conversations!

💀🩷✨

We hope you can join us for our last community death conversation event of the year! ✨🌱💀

Hey, everyone! We have quite a few new followers lately (YAYY!!! Hi!👋 Thank you!) and so we thought we’d do a little intro. This is especially important because Mohawk Valley Gives is coming up on FRIDAY! On Sept. 18, you will have the opportunity to support us and our endeavors by donating ~

https://www.givemv.org/organizations/upper-catskill-natural-burial-association

The Upper Catskill Natural Burial Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit group founded in 2022. Our mission is to provide education + advocacy for meaningful end-of-life planning, as well as the environmental and cultural benefits of green natural burials.

As you can see, we truly enJOY gathering community for lively events to normalize talking about death and to share information about all death, dying and disposition practices.

ANY amount you can give (no amount is too small and no amount is too large!) would help us with our mission! YOU will make a difference! And if you’d rather give to us directly, just send us a message!

If you have been to any of our FREE events, you know what we’re about! Thank you! If you have not, we certainly hope to see you soon at our future events (the next one being 10/13 at the Huntington Memorial Library in Oneonta!) or at the upcoming Oneonta parades!

Our 2nd Upper Catskill Natural Burial Association *Death Over Drafts* event was a Dream Come TRUE!! Every factor came together like ✨MAGIC✨ to create such a warm, welcoming, fun and thoughtful space to talk about death while enjoying craft beers and ciders AND wood-fired pizza!! Loads of THANKS + appreciation to Irene, Charlie and especially Shaye for being so incredibly kind, helpful, generous, accommodating and overall amazing!!🥂♥️🍎

Present at the event from our board were death doula Anne, our Death over Drafts event facilitator, Emily, Paige and Barb. We all had a great time diving into deep conversations with the ✨SPARK✨ cards, created by Anne.

We are so thankful to YOU ~ our attendees! Some of you drove far to attend our event and we are so grateful. Our collective stories, thoughts, tears, laughter and JOY made this event so so wonderful.

Our next community death conversation event is at the Huntington Memorial Library on October 13! We will have a link for you to register very soon! ✨🌱

Most people think an eco-funeral means: a wicker coffin, a woodland burial and no imported flowers.

But it’s so much more nuanced than that.

In our experience, an eco-funeral isn’t created via a checklist.

It’s a series of small, deliberate choices that reflect what matters to you, your people, all living things and the planet.

That’s why we made our Eco-Endings zine worksheet.

It’s not a rulebook or a lecture.

It’s a dedicated place to explore what’s possible, one question at a time.

Love you bye

Most people never see what happens before a woodland burial. The family arrives at the same time everyone else arrives. The flowers are already there. The space feels calm and somehow welcoming.

For this woodland burial, I arrived an hour early with a huge bucket full of flowers gathered from the family’s own garden. Tulips. Daffodils. Pear blossom. Rosemary. Tiny blue grape hyacinths. These had been picked the day before by the grandchildren.

My role was to prepare a welcome.

Slowly, I tied little posies with twine and placed them at the graveside against a young oak tree. I also lined the grave with bright seasonal blooms from the person’s garden. I listened to the birds while the woodland settled around me. There was no rush.

This hour before is one of the most important parts of my work when I’m supporting a family or community with a natural burial. I think we sometimes underestimate how much environments can communicate. Preparing a space with care and symbolic meaning can somewhat soften the moment people first arrive and then hold them delicately.

Have you ever walked into a space that immediately made you feel held and supported in your grief? We’d love to hear about it.

Love you bye
