October is . Louisiana has the highest rate of ADHD diagnoses in the country.

ADHD looks different from one person to the next, and so should the care. Zachariah Francois, D.O., says his approach starts with listening, then building a plan that fits each patient's life.

Danica Adams is being recognized as the Spotlight Employee for October 2026. We would like to introduce Danica, who has been a member of our OGHS family for the duration of 2 years. Danica is a Medical Assistant at the Rural Health Clinic at Main Campus.

Danica's explanation of her various duties:
Danica is responsible for coordinating and implementing patient behavioral health therapeutic plans and goals. She also ensures medication compliance, responds to patient messages, and assists with patient referrals. She also coordinates with the psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioner, and other members of the care team to provide patient education.

What Danica likes about working at OGHS:
Danica loves the family she has built at OGHS and how everyone works together as a team to give patient-centered care.

What would Danica like everyone to know about her:
Danica would like everyone to know that she is a mother to a little boy that keeps her on her toes. She loves to travel, shop, learn new things, and read in her free time.

What are you most thankful for:
Danica is most thankful for the providers she has the privilege of working with. She says their knowledge, guidance, and willingness to teach has allowed her to learn and grow since joining OGHS. They have pushed her to further her education, and she is currently pursuing her goal of becoming an LPN.

National Midwifery Week is held annually during the first full week of October. This annual observance highlights the critical role of midwives, promotes midwife-led care, and raises awareness about maternal and infant health.

Opelousas General would like to recognize certified nurse midwife Jennifer Babineaux, CNM, NP. She is a valuable member of the hospital’s obstetrics team whose impact is far reaching with both moms and babies.

Lance Armentor, BSM, MHA, President & CEO of Opelousas General Health System (OGHS) announces that Madelyn Lavergne, M.D., will begin seeing patients effective October 6, 2026. Dr. Lavergne is board certified in Family Medicine. Her scope of services includes preventative medicine and chronic disease management, pediatrics, women’s health and geriatrics.

Dr. Lavergne joins the family medicine practice of Dr. Michael Burnell. She steps into the practice after Dr. Royce Darbonne decided to close his private practice. The office is located at 138 Lazaro Blvd., Suite A., Opelousas, off I-49 South Service Road, next to OGHS South Campus. Dr. Lavergne will continue caring for all of Dr. Darbonne’s patients and accept new patients. Appointments can be scheduled by calling the office at 337-447-4025.

“We are very pleased to welcome Dr. Lavergne to our community,” said Armentor. “Family medicine plays a vital role in keeping individuals and families healthy by providing comprehensive, compassionate care across every stage of life. I would like to thank Dr. Darbonne for serving patients in private practice and appreciate his continued work as a hospitalist here at OGHS.”

Dr. Lavergne completed her medical training at LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans and her family medicine residency through LSU Health Sciences Center at University Hospital & Clinics.

Dr. Lavergne is a member of both Louisiana Academy of Family Physicians, American Academy of Family Physicians, and American Medical Association.
