PADDLEPOWER

PADDLEPOWER PADDLEPOWER is a multi-faceted adventure - paddling on the Connecticut River & walking on the Hazen Trail - to raise funds for su***de prevention.

West Central Behavioral Health is a state-designated community mental health center serving residents of Sullivan and Grafton counties in New Hampshire, as well as residents of adjacent communities in New Hampshire and Vermont. WCBH provides a wide range of mental health and community-based support services in outpatient clinics, schools, homes, correctional facilities, hospitals, nursing homes and residential supported living programs.

Each year in August, a multitude of paddlers, volunteers - and now walkers - embark on a two-day adventure that spans 25 miles of the picturesque Connecticut River and 5 miles on the Hazen Trail to raise funds and awareness for su***de prevention. Some participants are su***de survivors and some have lost a loved one to su***de. Many people return year after year for a healing weekend with friends and family. All participants are dedicated to raising awareness about depression and su***de prevention and funds to support emergency mental health services in our community. This is an upbeat river trip and nature walk, with beautiful scenery and wonderful people, with a moving closing ceremony that reminds us why we participate each year. General information

Su***de is the second leading cause of death among New Hampshire residents age 15 to 34; only accidental deaths kill more young people. Su***de consistently ranks among the top ten causes of death in America, and an average of one veteran dies by su***de every day. This is a serious public health problem that needs more attention and discussion. To raise awareness and funds for su***de prevention in Sullivan and southern Grafton counties in New Hampshire, West Central Behavioral Health created PADDLEPOWER. This two-day paddling adventure on the Connecticut River supports West Central's 24-hour crisis hotline and other emergency mental health services.
