He was outside doing his thing when suddenly he stopped and looked toward the sky. He lifted his head and started scanning the horizon, then quietly made his way back toward the house.

Within thirty seconds, my phone buzzed with an alert-lightning detected nearby.

By the time I knew the storm was coming, he already knew.

I shared more of Wishbone’s story, and what became possible when we stopped trying to make him fearless. 🤍

I found this barred owl feather on a walk today and I asked if there was a message. What came through felt especially timely.

Something I hear from dog and cat guardians, isn’t a lack of intuition. It’s a lack of trusting themselves.

I hear things like…

I think my dog is trying to tell me something, but maybe I’m making it up.

I feel like my animal needs something, but I don’t trust myself to know what.

I know I need to set a boundary, but...

The knowing is already there.

The hard part is trusting it.

The message that came through from Owl felt like a reminder of exactly that.

Trust your voice.

Trust what you know.

Trust yourself.

What if the animals in our lives are offering us more than companionship?

What if they're inviting us to see ourselves, our relationships, and the world around us in a completely different way?

I'm honored to be speaking at the Animal & Human Awakening Summit, where we'll be exploring the profound connection between animals and their humans.

In my session, we'll talk about the healing that lives between animals and their humans, how animals often respond to what we're carrying, and what becomes possible when we're willing to see the world through their eyes.

The summit brings together a variety of animal communicators, healers, and teachers exploring topics including:

• Interspecies communication
• Emotional and energetic connection
• The wisdom animals bring into our lives
• Our shared journey of growth and healing

One of the biggest mistakes I see is waiting until the stressful event is already happening before trying something new.

Whether it’s fireworks, thunderstorms, travel, construction, or visitors, I like to start supporting sensitive dogs before we’re in the middle of the challenge.

This is EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), one of the tools I use with some of my own dogs and with clients.

The goal isn’t to make them fearless.

The goal is to help them feel more supported, regulated, and resilient when life gets overwhelming.

Whatever tools you choose, start early.

Don’t wait until the night of the fireworks to find out whether something helps.

If your dog is stressed, anxious, or overwhelmed, this might be one of the simplest ways to help.

Let them sniff.

When we think about helping a nervous or sensitive dog, we often think about supplements, training, or finding ways to burn off energy.

But sometimes what they need most is an opportunity to slow down and take in the world around them.

A dog’s nose is one of the primary ways they experience life. Every scent tells a story. Who’s been here. What’s changed. What’s familiar. What’s new.

When I let my dogs move slowly, follow their nose, and explore at their own pace, I often see them settle into themselves.

There is magic in watching them reconnect with the world around them.

The earth beneath their feet.

The information carried on the wind.

The environment they’re moving through.

For dogs, a sniffari isn’t just enrichment. It’s a chance to slow down, process, and engage a different part of their brain.

And for sensitive dogs, that can be incredibly grounding.

Do you have a dog who loves to sniff?

how do you introduce your dog? I was so excited to meet Sandi today. She’s a young Great Pyrenees who recently joined a neighbor’s farm and is already settling in with the other dogs there. One of the older females has really taken her under her wing and has been showing her the ropes, and the younger male is thrilled to have another dog to play with. It was really sweet to watch.

As we were talking about her, the conversation quickly shifted to all the hard things she had been through before arriving there.

I understand why people do that. Sometimes an animal’s history absolutely matters. If you’re working through behavior, fear, trauma, or trying to understand what an animal has been through, those conversations can be important and necessary.

But maybe those things don’t always have to be the very first introduction.

If you’ve ever been sick, grieving, struggling emotionally, or going through something difficult, you probably know what it feels like when someone looks at you with pity, or even worse, says the dreaded “I feel so bad for you.” 😬 Even when people mean well, you can feel it.

Imagine what it feels like for animals when the first thing everyone learns about them is the worst thing that ever happened to them.

Not who they are.
Not what they love.
Not their personality.
Not the things that make them THEM.

Just their pain.

There’s nothing wrong with honoring where they came from. But maybe we don’t always have to lead with it.

Instead we can start with:
She loves belly rubs.
He’s obsessed with sticks.
She runs like the wind.
He makes everyone laugh.

There’s so much more to them than what happened to them. 🌿
