any of these sound familiar?

you were probably a very good kid.

good grades first. help your mom first. take care of your brother first. don’t sit around. don’t just be. and definitely don’t be upset about something small.

so you got efficient. capable. the one everybody counts on. and it worked — that’s the part nobody says out loud. it worked so well that you built an entire life on it.

but the women who come see me are exhausted in a way that sleep doesn’t touch. they’re high functioning and running on fumes and when they finally slow down enough to feel something, they feel worse. more anxious. more stressed. and they think that means rest isn’t for them.

it isn’t that. it’s that your body is doing exactly what it learned to do. a child attaches to a caregiver any way she can — that’s biology, not weakness. and if resting looked unsafe or unearned back then, your nervous system still reads it that way now.

which means the guilt you feel when you finally sit down isn’t a character flaw. it’s an old instruction.

you get to feel it without getting stuck in it. you take it as information. you let it move — cry, shake it out, talk it through with someone you trust. and then you choose.

i can keep living from here, and it costs me. or i can choose me.

the choice doesn’t hold on the first try. it holds through repetition. i’m choosing myself, i’m choosing myself, i’m choosing myself. and slowly the old thing loosens its grip, and you start living from somewhere quieter.

why self care doesn't feel good at first, especially when you're high functioning and burnt out

when you've been high functioning for a long time, living a stressful life, prioritizing everybody else over yourself, that comes from a place that's deeply hardwired in your subconscious. so when you start to rest, when you start to take care of yourself, even though you know taking care of yourself matters, it may make you feel more stressed and icky at first.

that's your ego fighting you. your body resists it. it'll bring up guilt and shame. worry. it'll make you feel like you're doing something wrong. you likely learned a long time ago that everything else came before your needs. your subconscious and your body see doing anything for yourself, first or at all, as a threat.

that self care guilt, shame, anxiety (or whatever else you feel) is part of the process. it's totally normal.

with practice and repetition, taking care of yourself over and over and over, knowing and being with the struggle of it, it gets easier. that's nervous system regulation. new neural pathways forming. taking care of yourself starts to feel like second nature. the guilt may loosen. your stress decreases. it starts to feel like you've returned home.

you’re exhausted and stressed out. not because you’re broken. because you’ve been last on your own list for a very long time.

that’s not a character flaw. that’s what happens when you’ve been over-functioning, over-giving, and running on empty for everyone around you — for years.

your nervous system feels like it has been running on fumes. your body is tired. and the kind of rest you actually need isn’t another early night or a weekend of trying to do less.

it’s an hour where someone takes care of you. where you don’t have to perform, produce, or be anything for anyone.

that’s what we do at our UNIFY homestead wellness studio.

yomassage, massage, and interflow — somatic bodywork designed to help you come back to yourSelf.

one hour. just for you.

she doesn't rely on me to feel well. she relies on herself.

she moves through different things — different support, different services — but she's the one at the center of it. she knows what she needs. she listens. she shows up for it.

that internal compass is what makes everything work, including her time here.

"the whole time in there, i was able to let go and be fully present. i can be right here, right now. i don't have to worry. this is what i come back to."

that's what it looks like when someone is actually doing the work. not outsourcing their wellness. leading it.

your body is always the part of you that's here. right now. in this moment.

your mind will predict the future, replay the past, worry about what's coming next. that's what minds do. but your body doesn't go anywhere. it's always present — and that's exactly what makes it the fastest road back to yourSelf.

women who are over-functioning, running on empty, feeling disconnected — the mind is almost always pulling them somewhere else. the past, the future, the list. somatic awareness is what interrupts that pattern. not by forcing the mind to stop, but by giving it something real to come home to.

connecting with physical sensation — just noticing what you feel, without trying to change it — is one of the most direct ways to regulate your nervous system and find your way back to the present moment. not forcing it. not fighting it. just feeling.

that's how you begin to come back to yourSelf.

try the practice on this card. thirty seconds. just feel.

i’m playing around with adding assisted stretching into my massage sessions and i need some willing bodies to practice on.

my 60 minute sessions are normally $125. while i’m developing this format, i’m offering them at $100 — no tips, ever. that’s the flat rate.

regular clients get first dibs.
