Therapy or just fun? It’s both! ☀️
As pediatric OTs, we know a secret: the best therapy looks and feels exactly like play. When a child is laughing and pushing a therapy ball outside, they aren’t just having fun. They are actively rewriting their developmental blueprint.
Here is what is actually happening behind that big smile:
Gross Motor Magic: Rolling, kicking, and lifting heavy therapy balls builds core strength and balance.
Brain Boosts: Joy and laughter trigger endorphins, which actually help the brain process and retain new motor skills faster.
Sensory Integration: Being outdoors provides natural regulation, while the ball offers deep pressure input to help kids feel grounded.
Social Connections: Smiling and sharing a laugh with a therapist builds the trust needed to take new physical risks.
Play is not a break from learning. It is the most powerful learning tool we have!
