Every patient who walks through my door receives my full attention, consideration, and care. Still, someone who is a perpetual student and loves research will fall down different rabbit holes from time to time. Here’s one recent line of inquiry and one that’s been going on for decades!
🍗 I’ve recently had the opportunity to work with a handful of patients with gastroparesis, a chronic digestive disorder that can be challenging to understand and treat, particularly when no clear underlying cause is identified. Symptoms can be debilitating, often including nausea, vomiting, bloating, and abdominal pain. Seeing these patients’ struggles prompted a digestive deep dive - pathophysiology, western medical perspectives, eastern medical perspectives, clinical trials. The GI system’s influence on whole health is fascinating and something East Asian Medicine has recognized since it was documented in the Pi Wei Lun in the 1200s. As I move into the final year of my Chinese Herbal certificate program, I’d love to support more patients with gastrointestinal concerns.
🏁 I’ve loved the precision driving and resilient engineering behind everything from rally to autocross, drift to demo for over twenty years. Motorsports athletes and teams have long been overlooked in conversations about sports medicine. I’m interested in changing that by exploring the role acupuncture may play for motorsports professionals in high-stakes, high-speed environments, from pre-race prep to post-race recovery. If you’re behind the wheel or part of the track support team, it might be time for a different kind of pit stop.
