Happy Sunday ☀️
Recently I’ve been feeling a great sense of peace and I’d love to inspire you to feel the same sense of calm. I’m inspired to reach out and send the good vibes out there.

I hope you fill your week with small things that make you smile, people that make you feel a sense of home, and gratitude for the tiniest things that make your life easier.

No matter what emotional state or life stage you are in, I hope you remember you have control over your happiness, feeling connected and loved is possible, and no matter how big, your goals are reachable.

Here is what my husband and I do NOT say to continue to keep our marriage strong…

Weaponized comparison:
“Other husbands actually help their wives” or “why can’t you be more like (someone else)!”
Speaking down to each other like this reflects condescension. It translates to feelings of disrespect from the partner receiving these words. Men in particular, equate respect with feelings of love.

Dismissive language:
“I’m done listening to you”
When we dismiss our partner’s perspective, we shut down their thoughts and feelings. We basically are saying this is not a safe space for you to feel heard

Passive aggressiveness
“Ill just do it myself, like always”
The lack of being direct also breaks trust in the relationship. Now we’re asking our partner to not believe what we say, while we throw a layer on criticism in there.

We’re not perfect but we can always repair if our anger takes over. We’re actively work towards removing contempt like this out of conversation. Respect in communication is vital.

This is my tried and true way to improve my nervous system 🤍

I personally just finished a 30 day streak of JournalSpeak intervention and the change has been so huge.

You’re not uniquely unfixable, you’re not too anxious, and you are not too sensitive. This can work for you too!

Emotional distance is one of the main issues that couple state is bringing them to therapy. We as humans thrive for connection. We want to feel seen, heard, and loved. True independence actually invites closeness because of how secure the independent person may be. While emotionally distancing oneself, like pulling away, keeps you alone.
