We just launched a Call-In Center for Long Island! Today Legal Hand launched a free virtual Nassau Suffolk Call-In Center where trained community Volunteers, who are not lawyers, provide free information, assistance, and referrals to help members of the community, called Visitors, address issues such as employment, housing, family, immigration, domestic violence, and benefits, and try to prevent problems from turning into legal actions. There are no eligibility requirements and all are helped, regardless of income, immigration status, residence, or any other typical low-income assistance criteria. No appointments are necessary. Long Island residents in need of assistance can contact the Legal Hand Call-In Center through phone, text, or chat. We can also meet by video. The Legal Hand Call-In Center will be open, in addition to normal business hours, on evenings and weekends. It will also provide virtual Know Your Rights workshops on issues impacting Long Islanders.
Want to volunteer with the Legal Hand Nassau Suffolk Call-In Center? People interested in volunteering can attend a Legal Hand Call-In Center Volunteer Information Session on Monday, January 11, 2021 at 6 p.m. and can register here. Orientation and training, as well as laptops and headsets, will be provided to all Call-In Center Volunteers. Please spread the word!
