A special thank you to the members of the Lincoln Senior Center for once again showing such wonderful support for the 2026 Optimism Walk.

Together, we raised an amazing
$465.00.
I couldn't do this without the incredible support and help from the staff at the Lincoln Senior Center. I'm truly grateful for each and every one of you!

Many Thanks, Maria Kishfy

I am deeply grateful to everyone who has supported my efforts to raise funds for Rhode Islanders living with Parkinson's disease. For more than ten years, I have collaborated closely with the American Parkinson's Disease Association, Rhode Island Chapter, and have witnessed the organization's commitment, diligence, and resourcefulness. The association promotes hope and optimism by offering innovative services, educational programs, and support, while also funding essential research. Please help me continue supporting Rhode Islanders affected by Parkinson's disease.

Every day, APDA provides support, education, community, and research to help everyone impacted by Parkinson’s disease live life to the fullest.

Topic: Vestibular Migraines
Travel can be challenging for both body and mind, as it disrupts your routine. I recently returned from a wonderful vacation with friends and family, but my vestibular migraine symptoms persisted. While my symptoms vary, they often include a wave-like sensation of differing intensity. This time, I also experienced brief changes in sight and hearing. Here are a few takeaways for myself and others who manage migraines.

1. Create a migraine diary to share with your neurologist. The more information you provide, the better your treatment options will be. Print below.

2. Bring snacks to help maintain your migraine threshold. Avoid dehydration, skipped meals, and drops in blood sugar.
a Recommended snacks include unsalted walnuts and almonds, whole grain crackers, and ginger chews for nausea. Prioritize staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water.

I hope this helps. Maria

Today, I received a phone call that filled my heart with gratitude and reminded me why we never stop advocating for those living with Parkinson’s disease.

Last year, someone attended one of our APDA support groups and learned about MR-guided focused ultrasound. He decided to pursue the treatment, and today he called to share his story. With genuine excitement and deep thankfulness, he told me that it changed his life.

Those are words that stay with you.

The advancements in treating Parkinson’s disease continue to give so many people renewed hope. Equally important are support groups that provide education, encouragement, and a place where people can connect, ask questions, and realize they’re not alone.

This is why we do what we do. Every fitness class, every support group, every conversation, and every shared resource has the potential to change a life.

To everyone who is part of this journey—thank you. Together, we are making a difference, bringing hope, and helping people live fuller, stronger lives with Parkinson’s disease. Never underestimate the power of sharing information… it may be the very thing that changes someone’s future. 💙

Age 55 plus? Join me
FitYoga is a fitness-based yoga class that improves flexibility, strength, balance, and overall physical fitness while promoting relaxation and stress relief. Through yoga poses, flows, and mindful breathing techniques, participants build muscle endurance, increase mobility, and enhance body awareness for everyday activities.
You should be able to move from the floor to standing by yourself for this class. If you need more support, have a sturdy chair readily available.
We use yoga blocks, straps, and knee pads as needed to provide support, build muscle endurance, and improve alignment. These tools also help you stay mindful during practice. It is recommended to bring your own support equipment.

Thank you!

FitYoga Class with Maria meets on Mondays at 2:30 pm!

There is no single test that can definitively diagnose Vestibular Migraines, it is a very real and often misunderstood neurological condition that affects millions of people worldwide. Living with any chronic condition has its challenges; however, learning how to manage them effectively is paramount to maintaining independence, well-being, and quality of life.
Please share with anyone you know that may suffer from this condition.
VM TIP: Polyphenol-Rich Foods for Neuroinflammation and Vestibular Migraine Support:
I started focusing on incorporating more Polyphenol-Rich foods into my Diet. Polyphenols are plant compounds known for their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, which can help support brain health and reduce neuroinflammation. My morning breakfast: Spinach-Protein smoothie: 1 cup of Milk, ice, handful of spinach, protein powder and 2 prunes.
Please share with anyone you think may benefit from this tip.
