“Why do addiction and mental health issues so often go together?” 🩵

It’s one of the most common questions we get, and the answer is often more human than people expect. Many people start using alcohol or other substances to cope with anxiety, depression, trauma, or just feeling overwhelmed. 🥺 Over time, the substance can make those symptoms worse, which makes the urge to use stronger, and the cycle feeds itself. Shared factors like stress, trauma, genetics, and brain chemistry can play a part in both.

The good news is that when both are treated together, people tend to do better. If you’re dealing with both, you haven’t failed. You’re dealing with two connected things, and there’s support for both. 🙏

Here’s what we wish more people knew: finding the right medication often isn’t a one-and-done thing. 💙

Everyone’s brain responds differently. A medication that did nothing for you, or made you feel worse, tells us something useful about what your body needs. Sometimes the next step is a different medication, a different dose, or a different kind of support altogether.

If you’re thinking about starting again or making a change, talk with a provider first. We can look at what happened and work out the next step together.

Don’t let January hit you like a truck. 🎄
Missing meds, forgetting refills, barely sleeping through the holiday rush? Your brain feels all of it. A little planning now can make the new year a lot gentler.

Do these 3 things before the holidays, and if you need a refill or a check-in first, we’re here.

Does depression look different in older adults compared to younger patients? 💙

Often, yes. In older adults it doesn’t always show up as sadness. It can look like low energy, trouble sleeping, or pulling away from people, and it’s easy to brush off as a normal part of aging. It isn’t, and it’s very treatable at any age.

If you’ve noticed a change in yourself or someone you love, it’s worth a conversation.

Eating disorders don’t always look the way we expect, and a lot of the early signs are easy to miss. 💙
Sometimes it’s a person who suddenly seems anxious around meals, pulls away from get-togethers that involve food, or can’t stop thinking about what they eat.

Sometimes it’s a shift in mood or a change in how they talk about their body. These things can quietly slip by, especially when the person seems “fine” on the outside.

If something feels off with someone you love, or with yourself, you don’t have to wait until it looks serious. Eating disorders are treatable, and reaching out early makes a real difference.

👀Did you know that sleep and mental health run on the same circuit in your brain. When one breaks down, the other follows 🙃

Chronic insomnia can be both a symptom and a cause of anxiety and depression. Treating it, through therapy, sleep hygiene, or medication when needed, is one of the fastest ways patients start feeling like themselves again 🙏🧠

👂🏼You’ve heard “just relax” more times than you can count. But when your brain won’t quiet down and you’re running on empty from being on edge all day, that advice doesn’t cut it 🤷🏻

Here’s the line psychiatrists actually look for: how long, and how much impact 👀👀
If you’re worrying most days for months and it’s disrupting your sleep, work, or relationships, that’s not “just stress” anymore. That’s worth getting evaluated for 🩺

Anxiety is one of the most treatable conditions we see, with therapy, medication, or both 💙

If someone you love is struggling, asking “are you okay?” could save their life 🙏🏼

There’s a myth that keeps too many of us silent when it matters most: the fear that asking someone directly about su***de will somehow give them the idea.
It won’t. Research consistently shows the opposite, for most people carrying that weight alone, being asked feels like relief. Like finally being seen 💙

So if someone you love has been off lately, don’t wait for the “right” moment. Sit with them. Ask directly. And most importantly: listen without rushing to fix it.

Then take the next step together, reach out to a mental health professional as soon as you can ✅
