Today is National Registered Dietitian Day!
Becoming a dietitian was a second career for me. Doing this work feels as close to a calling as I can imagine. “Let yourself by the strange pull of what you really love” - Rumi. This is a favorite quote of mine and one that describes my journey to becoming an RD. When I was a child thinking about what I wanted to do with my life, I remember feeling clueless. One thing I knew is that I wanted my work to make a tangible difference in the lives of others. I get to feel that reality every day and I am so grateful. Food holds a very complex place in our lives and it’s very rewarding to help people improve their relationship with food.
A dietitian can help with so many things.
Are you getting the nutrients you need?
Is your nutrition worsening or helping your health? Specific health conditions?
How much protein do you really need?
How do you reduce inflammation for real?
Are you taking the right supplements? Are they interacting with eachother? With medication?
How can you improve gut health with food and supplements ?
How do you increase performance using nutrition?
Am I deficient in certain nutrients?
All of these questions are things an RD can help with and so much more. I firmly believe everyone should at least occasionally be meeting with a health professional about nutrition at least annually.
