We’re excited to welcome Shoshana, our optometry intern, and Dr. Shreya Bhatt, our ophthalmology resident to SVI!

✨Meet Shoshana✨
Originally from Jacksonville, Florida, Shoshana is a fourth-year student at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. She earned her undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Nova Southeastern University and is excited to continue developing her clinical skills at Shafer Vision, with a special interest in surgical co-management and ocular disease.

Outside of clinic, Shoshana loves traveling and playing the piano. She’s been a classically trained pianist since she was six years old! 🎶

✨Meet Dr. Bhatt✨
Dr. Shreya Bhatt graduated from Nova Southeastern University KPCOM in 2026 and is currently completing an ophthalmology rotation with Shafer Vision as part of her intern year. She’s excited to learn alongside Dr. Shafer and our team while continuing to grow her skills in ophthalmology.

Outside of ophthalmology, Dr. Bhatt enjoys dancing, baking, traveling, and exploring new places with friends and family. She especially loves being outdoors, whether she’s hiking or spending time by the beach! 🌊

We’re so happy to have Shoshana and Dr. Bhatt with us and look forward to being part of their journey! 💙

✨ Meet the team Monday✨

We’re so excited to welcome the newest member of the SVI team, our Surgery Coordinator, Melissa! 💙

With nearly 9 years of experience in ophthalmology, Melissa brings a wealth of knowledge from her time working in pediatrics, general ophthalmology, and oculoplastics.

Melissa is passionate about building meaningful relationships with her patients and making sure they feel comfortable, confident, and supported throughout every step of their surgical journey.

Outside of SVI, you can find Melissa spending time with family and friends, cuddling with her dog Hamlet , playing soccer, attending concerts, getting lost in a good book, or cheering on her favorite Philadelphia sports teams! 🦅⚾️ She’s also recently taken up golf, which she says has quickly become both her most frustrating and one of her favorite hobbies!🤣

We’re so happy to have Melissa joining the SVI family! Please help us give her a warm welcome! 💙

We’re excited to introduce the newest member of our team, Dr. Sam Jennings! 💙👓

Dr. Jennings is passionate about helping patients see their best and providing care that is both personalized and compassionate. She brings extensive experience in primary eye care and ocular disease, along with a genuine commitment to making every patient feel comfortable and cared for.

After earning her Doctor of Optometry degree from the New England College of Optometry and completing a residency in Primary Care and Ocular Disease, Dr. Jennings has spent her career serving patients throughout the Greater Philadelphia area and we’re thrilled that she’s now part of the Shafer Vision Institute family!

Outside the office, Dr. Jennings enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter, Jack and Shay, and their chocolate lab, Reese. 🐾

✨Meet Our Interns✨

We’re so excited to welcome Hen, Danielle, and Salwa to the Shafer Vision Institute team! 💙

Hen is a sixth-year medical student at Riga Stradins University in Latvia and is originally from Israel. She loves connecting with patients and learning more about different areas of medicine. Outside of the clinic, Hen enjoys traveling, exploring new places, and experiencing different cultures.

Danielle is a fourth-year optometry student at The Pennsylvania College of Optometry and is originally from Montgomery County, Maryland. She has a special interest in ocular disease and dry eye management. When she’s not in clinic, you can find her spending time with family, playing tennis, or hiking the Wissahickon trails with her fiancé.

Salwa is a fourth-year optometry student from The Pennsylvania College of Optometry and is originally from Staten Island, New York. She loves helping patients achieve their best vision and eye health and has a special interest in ocular disease and specialty contact lenses. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling, spending time with her cats, and making memories with family and friends.

We’re thrilled to have these talented future doctors as part of our team and can’t wait for our patients to meet them! 👏
