Updated . I talk about this constantly with clients especially my 20 somethings who are in the midst of their learning decade.

Acquaintances-people you know of but don’t know them. You may see them in passing.

Circumstantial-only friends because they are around each other.

Transactional-Only calls when they need something or you are only service to them.

Close friends- Typically you can count them on one hand. True friendship flaws and all. Tight circle. The middle circle is ALWAYS a goal.

REMEMBER WHO DESERVES YOUR TIME AND ENERGY. TIME AND ENERGY ARE TWO THINGS YOU DON’T GET BACK.

Gym is my therapy; yes as a therapist I have my own therapist. Gymming gives me a chance to exert some energy, clear my mind and maintain focus. Today is the second time I have had to train through my grief losing a loved one as the shock wore off. The first time, it was apart of my prep for figure, this time will be for a meet (although I plan to compete again next summer). I do wish that my cousin could be here to see me train and compete.

I had to use a lot of CBT (mindfulness, imagery, grounding, positive what if questions). Albeit challenging, I was able to do it because it gave a chance to reset my mind so that I could help others process their issues and feelings. This is the hardest part as an LPC, putting your feelings at the back burner even when you want to scream out and run out the room.

The jacked up part of grief is that like trauma, it follows you like a shadow. The ebbs and flows are real but it never goes away. Giving yourself a way to process your feelings will allow you to live with your grief as opposed to just surviving with the grief. It won’t go away totally, but will dissipate over time.

Allow yourself time to process and give yourself permission to grieve. Everyone’s journey is different and there is no wrong way to do so.

Hard to believe I graduated with my second masters 4 years ago and with honors. Paid my dues and now I am walking in my purpose.

Friendships are important. Our interactions with others can be a good or can troublesome.

Acquaintances are people that we know. No connection.

Transactional friends are people who are your friends on an “as needed” basis. They only reach out when they need something.

Close Friends - People who you may not be related to, but have a strong connection. These are the people who can be your mirror; meaning they tell you what you need to hear as opposed to what you want to hear and care about you flaws and all.
