An outbreak of Vibrio vulnificus, a flesh-eating bacterium commonly found in warm water, has killed five people in Louisiana. A recent case report details an immunosuppressed man who became infected with Vibrio vulnificus after sustaining a scratch from his dog, which had been swimming in warm coastal water.

Following surgery and antibiotics, the man recovered after 23 days. This case not only highlights an unconventional transmission route of Vibrio vulnificus, but it also emphasizes the importance of rapid diagnosis and treatment of high-risk patients. https://bit.ly/45Tiolo

Five people in Louisiana have died from Vibrio vulnificus, a flesh-eating bacterium that thrives in warm, brackish water. While typically associated with the Southeastern U.S. coast, a case report from the Annals of Internal Medicine archives describes 5 infections in the Delaware Bay area, highlighting the bacterium's expanding range as sea temperatures rise. Clinicians should remain aware of its symptoms and treatment as climate change alters seasonal windows for bacteria in marine ecosystems. https://bit.ly/3RKCYRQ
