August is Psoriasis Action Month. Psoriasis is more than a skin condition. Up to 30% of people with psoriasis go on to develop psoriatic arthritis, which can bring joint pain, stiffness, and swelling. If you are noticing joint symptoms alongside your skin, it is worth a conversation with a rheumatologist.

Not all arthritis is the same. Osteoarthritis is wear and tear on the cartilage, with stiffness that eases within 30 minutes and pain that worsens with activity. Rheumatoid arthritis is autoimmune, with morning stiffness that lasts over an hour, symmetrical joint pain, and fatigue that can affect the whole body. Telling them apart takes the right evaluation, and it guides the right treatment.

Today is World Sjögren's Day.

Most people know Sjögren's as dry eyes and dry mouth. Patients know it as something much bigger.

In the Sjögren's Foundation's Living with Sjögren's survey, 6,360 patients reported 46 different symptoms across multiple body systems. More than half of the top 20 had nothing to do with dryness at all. Brain fog was one of the most common of all.

That gap between how this disease gets described and how it actually gets lived is a big part of why so many people wait years for an answer.

If this sounds like your experience, you deserve a real evaluation. Our rheumatologists see new patients within 1 to 2 weeks, across six Greater Philadelphia locations.

Summer schedules change. Routines shift. And for patients managing rheumatic conditions, that can mean an increased risk of flares.

A few things that make a real difference this time of year: staying consistent with medications even during travel and holidays, building rest into high-activity days, staying hydrated in the heat, and paying attention to your early warning signs before a flare peaks.

You know your body. Trust it. And if something feels off, don't wait -- reach out to your care team. We'd rather help you get ahead of a flare than manage one after the fact.
