Not all learning can be measured. Some of it has to be noticed. 💛

When homeschool feels harder than it “should,” it may be worth looking beyond the curriculum and getting curious about what’s creating the friction.

I created the Educational Struggles Guide to help you uncover some of those hidden reasons and figure out what to try next.

Sometimes homeschool friction isn’t a sign that you need to try harder.

And it isn’t necessarily a sign that you need a better curriculum.

Sometimes the resistance is telling you that something about the learning experience isn’t working for your child.

When every lesson becomes a negotiation, your child seems perfectly capable until it’s time to “do school,” or adding more structure only seems to make things worse, it can be tempting to focus on the behavior.

But what if you got curious instead?

What is underneath the resistance?

Is the work too difficult, too easy, or simply a poor fit? Is your child overwhelmed, disconnected, lacking ownership, or struggling with a need that isn’t being recognized?

The goal isn’t to find the perfect curriculum that finally makes your child comply.

The goal is to understand why learning feels so hard right now, so you can make changes that actually help.

Before you buy another curriculum, start by figuring out what’s creating the friction.

💛 Comment me “GUIDE” and I’ll send you my Educational Struggles Guide, where you’ll discover 7 hidden reasons your child may be resisting learning and what you can do instead.

“Just be consistent.”

You’ve probably heard it before.

But what if the thing your child is struggling with isn’t a lack of consistency?

What if the routine itself doesn’t fit their nervous system, interests, developmental needs, or current capacity?

Sometimes consistency helps.

Sometimes consistently doing something that isn’t working just creates more friction.

Before you add more rules, more consequences, or more pressure, get curious about what’s actually happening.

That’s where I start with educational struggles.

What if it’s an information problem? 👀

When a child says “no,” shuts down, avoids the work, gets frustrated, or seems completely uninterested, it’s easy to assume they’re being defiant, lazy, or unmotivated.

But behavior is often communicating something they don’t yet have the words to explain.

Maybe the work doesn’t match how they learn.
Maybe they need more autonomy.
Maybe their body is overwhelmed.
Maybe there’s a missing skill.
Maybe the approach simply isn’t the right fit.

Before we try to fix the behavior, we can get curious about what it’s telling us.

That’s exactly what my Educational Struggles Guide is designed to help you do. It walks you through 7 common reasons learning can feel harder than it should, so you can stop guessing and start figuring out what’s actually getting in the way.

He knows how to do it. He’s just being defiant.”

Oof. 😬

Knowing how to do something and being able to consistently access that skill are not always the same thing.

When a child is struggling with learning, there is often more going on beneath the surface than “they just won’t.”

Maybe the task is overwhelming.
Maybe the way it’s being presented doesn’t match how their brain works.
Maybe they’re dysregulated.
Maybe they need more ownership.
Maybe there’s a disconnect between what we’re asking and what they actually need.

Instead of asking, “How do I get them to do this?”

Try asking, “What’s making this so hard?”

That question can change the entire way you approach a learning struggle.

Most times the difficult behavior is not a refusal to learn.
Usually they’re communicating a need.

Before asking, “How do I make them do this?” try asking, “What’s getting in the way?”

That’s exactly what I explore in my Educational Struggles Guide. Comment GUIDE and I’ll send it to you.

Your child doesn’t have to be good at everything to find their life’s purpose. Think of your own life. Are you a master of all the subjects?

You wouldn’t like a job that expected you to perform everyone’s role perfectly, so it makes sense when we get pushback from our kids when we’re trying to help them learn.

Sometimes what looks like resistance, laziness, or a lack of ability is actually a mismatch between the child and the way we’re asking them to learn.

If you’re struggling to understand why learning feels so hard right now, I made something to help.

Comment GUIDE and I’ll send you my free Learning Struggles Guide with 7 hidden reasons your child may be resisting learning, plus what you can try instead.

Sometimes the answer isn’t more rewards, more consequences, or more motivation.

Sometimes we need to get curious about why our child is resisting in the first place.
