Most women don’t realize how expensive pelvic floor dysfunction actually is not just financially, but in the lost time, confidence, intimacy, freedom, and mental energy you spend constantly managing it.

Pelvic floor physical therapy didn’t fail you, the plan of just a few exercises and a manual session or two (do we call that a plan?) is what failed you.

Your body doesn’t change from manual 1–2 sessions a week.

It doesn’t change from a few exercises that you do a few times a week when you don’t understand why you’re doing them.

It doesn’t change when someone doesn’t address your lifestyle habits that are driving the root of the issues.

And it really doesn’t change when you don’t learn how to progressively overload week to week so that way your tissues actually have a stimulus to adapt to in order to get stronger.

No, the field of physical therapy didn’t fail you, your physical therapist who lacks the ability to coach you, hold you accountable, and progress you did.

Hate the player, not the game.

Lauren didn’t want to spend another 6 months Googling how to fix her pelvic floor symptoms.

She’s a busy, driven woman. She wanted someone to look at the whole picture, connect the dots, and give her a plan she could actually follow because she’d already seen multiple pelvic floor therapists. She’d done the exercises, breathing, internal work.. and every time she pushed herself with her workouts outside of that she would get injured again because no one was showing her how to do it appropriately.

This is where virtual care can be so different and beneficial for women just like Lauren. We’re not limited to what happens for an hour in a clinic. We provide the full plan of care for you to follow for rehab AND fitness. We get to see how you move, how you train, how you sleep and fuel your body, what happens when you increase the demand, and how your symptoms respond to all the above. Then adjust your plan as symptoms decrease, you get stronger, and you move faster.

Lauren is now lifting and running without consequences, playing soccer, feeling muscles she didn’t even know she had, and actually feeling connected to her body again.

Forgetting the part of her life where heaviness, hip pain, constipation and pelvic tension, urinary urgency and more used to take up all her time and mental energy 👌

Staying in the learning phase for too long will keep you more stuck than just committing to the work.

Pain-free ≠ load-ready. If your symptoms keep coming back every time you return to lifting, you may need to progressively rebuild your strength, tolerance to load, and ability to handle your workouts over time, not just take more time off.

What I do care about is:

→ How you’re managing pressure
→ How you’re breathing and coordinating movement
→ Whether your tissues have the capacity for the load you’re asking them to handle
→ Whether you’re progressively building that capacity
→ Whether your symptoms are actually improving as you increase demand

There is a HUGE difference between understanding mechanics and telling women to be afraid of movement.

A good provider will be able to show you the difference.

Your symptoms can be part of your story without becoming your entire identity.

Yes, I’ve dealt with hip impingement.
Yes, I’ve had a tight pelvic floor.
Yes, I was told I had a prolapse before I even had kids.
Yes, there were seasons where pain and limitations took up way too much space in my life.

But I refuse to make my body’s limitations the most interesting thing about me.

I still lift heavy.
I still travel.
I still workout without thinking about my hip and pelvic floor.
I still feel strong, capable, sexy, athletic, and like me.

Getting your body to a place where your symptoms become so boring that you have more interesting things to think about is the real flex.

If you’re trying to figure out what’s actually going on with your pelvic floor, I made this really simple for you 🙂‍↕️

Hey I’m Dr. Courtney 👋🏼 I’m a Doctor of Physical Therapy specializing in pelvic health for athletes, and I want you to have the right resources before you start throwing random exercises at your symptoms.

Here are two places to start:

“What Is Pelvic Floor Dysfunction & Do I Have It?”

The full version of this video breaks down what pelvic floor dysfunction actually is, what can contribute to it, and helps you understand where you might see yourself based on your own symptoms.

“What Are My Pelvic Floor Symptoms Trying to Tell Me?”

Take my quiz to get a better idea of what your specific symptoms may be telling you, what could be contributing to them, and get a few educational videos to help you understand your symptoms better and start healing them. It’s a very specific quiz 👌🏼
