The Knotty Occultist Knotty Essentials for Everyday Magic

Here are my forecasts for all Rising Signs for the Full Moon on Beltane (May 1st).

Please be aware that other placements in your personal charts can/will change the expression of the Full Moon energy, and that these are general/generic horoscopes with broad overviews rather than tailored ones (as those require individual charts and a different house system altogether).

I have outlined the types of rituals that you may find most useful based on your Rising Sign, which is the best Sign to consult when reading any sort of general astrological forecast/horoscope.

*****

The Scorpio Full Moon is one of the most intense for magical workings and anything concerning the breaking of taboos, deep intimacy, and underworld journeying. The Moon is in Fall in Scorpio, intensifying the emotionality of the moon by destabilizing and/or compromising lunar ease. That intensity comes from the fixed-water nature of Scorpio, the pressure on the Moon from being in the Mars-ruled sign of Scorpio, the taboo material associated with the sign, and the amplification caused by the Full Moon phase. In Scorpio, the Full Moon is at the height of its most creative, destructive, and transformative, and it can be destabilizing or healing depending on the way the energies are channeled.

To understand what the Scorpio Full Moon holds in store, I use the Whole Sign house system for predictive forecasting because it is the most viable house system for general forecasts that aren’t tailored to individual charts. I use the aspect formed between the Rising Sign, assuming a 0° cusp on the Ascendant, and the Scorpio Full Moon at 0° on the cusp of the house where the sign of Scorpio falls in each general horoscope.

*****

*****Aries Rising, Scorpio Full Moon in the 8th House*****
An Inconjunct/Quincunx aspect between Aries Rising and the 8th House Scorpio Full Moon means that the desire to act independently is forced into adjustment by emotional concerns with intimacy, shared resources, and hidden power. There is a need for recalibration and transformation concerning entanglements with others, especially concerning intimacy and shared resources. The energy of this full Moon is exceptionally strong for cord-cuttings from old relationships that remain enmeshed in a person’s energy.

*****Ta**us Rising, Scorpio Full Moon in the 7th House*****
An Opposition aspect between Ta**us Rising and the 7th House Scorpio Full Moon means that the need for security and stability - both financially and emotionally - is confronted through intense relationship dynamics. Spouses, business partners, clients, and/or open enemies become mirrors for buried elements of emotional dependence that the energy of the Full Moon can be used to confront. This Full Moon provides a great amount of energy for shadow work and cord-cuttings to disentangle energy from those connections where emotional dependency defines the relationship.

*****Gemini Rising, Scorpio Full Moon in the 6th House*****
An Inconjunct/Quincunx aspect between Gemini Rising and the 6th House Scorpio Full Moon means that there is a lot of pressure and emotional intensity caused by work, health, and everyday life. There is a need to confront and acknowledge health and work stressors that the energy of this Full Moon makes impossible to ignore. This Full Moon provides a great amount of energy for healing rituals, purification magic, and/or career-finding magic.

*****Cancer Rising, Scorpio Full Moon in the 5th House*****
A Trine aspect between Cancer Rising and the 5th House Scorpio Full Moon means that emotionality is strongly channeled through creative and romantic pursuits. Private feelings can be expressed more strongly through artistic works and performance during this Full Moon that strongly resonate with others, especially close friends and family. This Full Moon provides a great amount of energy for artistically performed rituals, creative workings, and love magic for attracting romance.

*****Leo Rising, Scorpio Full Moon in the 4th House*****
A Square aspect between Leo Rising and the 4th House Scorpio Full Moon means that pride and public reputation come into conflict with buried ancestral patterns, family secrets, or power struggles in the home with partners or other family members. Whatever has been brewing underneath the surface refuses to stay buried during this Full Moon, and the best use of this energy is to directly address those issues as they arise rather than avoid them. This Full Moon provides great energy for any sort of ancestral ritual workings that need to be done.

*****Virgo Rising, Scorpio Full Moon in the 3rd House*****
A Sextile aspect between Virgo Rising and the 3rd House Scorpio Full Moon means that analysis and investigation may uncover secrets, particularly any secrets that neighbors, coworkers, or siblings may have been hiding. These secrets may more readily be found through documents, conversations, or even accidental (or purposeful) eavesdropping. This Full Moon provides a great deal of energy for truth seeking rituals and workings to uncover hidden motives.

*****Libra Rising, Scorpio Full Moon in the 2nd House*****
A Semi-sextile aspect between Libra Rising and the 2nd House Scorpio Full Moon means that there is tension between internal self-understanding and concerns with personal wealth and values. There may be conflict between the desire to maintain harmony as a self-defined peacekeeper and the realization that peacekeeping sometimes comes at a cost, both in terms of personal ethical stances and through monetary losses. This Full Moon provides the energy needed for shadow work and clarification rituals to determine where the commitment to peacekeeping is threatening ethical and financial security/stability.

*****Scorpio Rising, Scorpio Full Moon in the 1st House*****
A Conjunct aspect between Scorpio Rising and the 1st House Scorpio Full Moon means that emotional revelation is extremely transformative during this period. The energy of this Full Moon can be used for exceptionally strong shadow work, but it also comes with the risk of self-destabilization because of the crisis of self-understanding that this conjunction often provokes. These rituals should be undertaken with caution during this Full Moon, as they will be high-risk, high-reward when they succeed and high-risk, high-loss if they do not.

*****Sagittarius Rising, Scorpio Full Moon in the 12th House*****
A Semi-sextile aspect between Sagittarius Rising and the 12th House Scorpio Full Moon means that the desire for movement and expansion is shadowed by concealed emotional material concerning spirituality, secret enemies, dreams, and self-undoing. Because the pressure from this aspect is not easily seen, the Full Moon energy can be used for shadow work rituals and clarification magic to clarify the pressure points. This is also great Full Moon energy for psychic channeling, as the self-undoing nature of the 12th House provides great support for mediumship as long as the ritual is properly bounded to avoid self-fragmentation.

*****Capricorn Rising, Scorpio Full Moon in the 11th House*****
A Sextile aspect between Capricorn Rising and the 11th House Scorpio Full Moon means that structural discipline/strategy can be used for productive engagement for emotional revelations concerning group dynamics, alliances, and goals. Community dynamics become more visible and can be reorganized. This Full Moon provides great energy for community rituals and projects that have structure and shared community goals at their base.

*****Aquarius Rising, Scorpio Full Moon in the 10th House*****
A Square aspect between Aquarius Rising and the 10th House Scorpio Full Moon means that idealism and reputational/professional demands create intense pressure that may cause outright conflict. Leadership necessities and idealism may cause fracturing along either professional lines or within communities where idealism and logistics clash. This Full Moon provides great energy for shadow work concerning career, leadership, and/or community obligations as well as for career magic and activist workings defined along realistic lines.

*****Pisces Rising, Scorpio Full Moon in the 9th House*****
A Trine aspect between Pisces Rising and the 9th House Scorpio Full Moon means that intuition and spiritual sensitivity flow naturally into deep transformative spaces concerning religion, philosophy, higher learning, and travel. This Full Moon provides great energy for trancework journeying, divinatory practices, and ritual channeling.

Precision Before Ptolemy: Manilius's Poetic Geometry

Manilius, an astrologer writing in 1st century CE Rome, is often dismissed as an oddity. His "Astronomica," a five-book astrological treatise written in verse, has long been treated as a curiosity rather than a serious source. But as a historian trained in "reading against the archive," I take poetic sources seriously. Applying historical method to Manilius reveals an intricate system of astrology rooted in geometric precision, one that not only predates but often surpasses Ptolemy. His work challenges the modern assumption that only five aspects were known in antiquity and shows that the debate over orbs in trines and squares is, in fact, an ancient argument among astrologers.

Essential Dignities graphic. Free for use. Credit me as Zora Lysara.

Also, please note that I personally interpret Uranus as exalted in Aries, in fall in Libra; Neptune exalted in Scorpio, in fall in Ta**us; and Pluto as exalted in Capricorn, in fall in Cancer. Those are not universally or even widely accepted placements.

I applied the logic Rhetorius used for determining the exaltation/fall of the inner planets to determine where I believe the most logical exaltation/fall is for the outer planets.

Every hour of each day is ruled by a specific planet or luminary. The order of planets on Sunday is Sun - Venus - Mercury - Moon - Saturn - Jupiter - Mars, and this order repeats for the rest of the week.

You can see that the beginning hour of each day is ruled by the planet/luminary that the day is named for.

Sunday - Sun; Monday - Moon; Tuesday - Mars; Wednesday - Mercury; Thursday - Jupiter; Friday - Venus; Saturday - Saturn.

The days of the week take their names not only from the planets themselves but also from the planet that rules the first hour of each day.
