One of the biggest misconceptions in healing is that we'll only feel better first.
But for many people—especially those of us with highly sensitive systems—healing often begins with feeling more.
More sensation.
More emotion.
More awareness.
✨More connection with the body.✨
Relief is one signpost on the healing journey.
Reconnection is another.
As we begin coming out of threat response, the nervous system starts reconnecting with experiences that were previously held at a distance.
🧊🌊This process is often referred to as thawing – because we are thawing out of a freeze response.
For many highly sensitive systems, thawing means coming out of years—or often decades—of bracing, protection, and functional freeze.
And when we reconnect with the body, the body has a lot to say.
We may feel sadness, grief, tension, soreness, fatigue, or physical discomfort.
We may also feel relief.
More space.
More freedom.
More access to ourselves.
Often all at the same time.
This is why the beginning stages of healing can sometimes feel turbulent.
Not because something is wrong.
But because something is finally becoming accessible.
I use the analogy of landing a plane.
☁️🛬As we come out of the clouds, we naturally encounter turbulence before we reach the ground.
The turbulence doesn't mean healing isn't happening.
It means it is.
🌿And relief becomes the pathway.
As we learn to recognize and cultivate experiences of safety, support, connection, and relief, the nervous system continues reorganizing around those experiences.
🤲 Understanding this process is one of the foundational concepts we explore inside the Sensitive Intelligence™ Somatic Healing Practitioner Certification.
Grounded in Polyvagal Theory and neuroscience, practitioners learn how to track activation, thawing, regulation, and coherence within the system.
More importantly, we learn how to recognize where a person is within their healing process and how to support that process without rushing it, fixing it, or mistaking activation for failure.
