As Mother's Day approaches., I am reminded of the Gifts of Motherhood
From my mother I learned many things, including…
The benefit of steadfastness and hard work
The joy of a fairly clean and organized house
That no one has all the answers…not even mom
How much my mom gave up for her children
That everyone makes mistakes and no one is perfect
That love can be shown in many ways, including by service to others
That hardship requires sacrifice but it is survivable
Much of what I learned from mom came to me later in life after I left home.
As a mother, I learned...
What patience is, and how hard it is sometimes, to have it in the moment
How it feels to love unconditionally
How to quell my anger and return to love
How to know the merits of my efforts, and let my own gratitude for that be enough
That there is not always a need to understand, just to forgive and move on in love
Through motherhood I learned innovative skills and talents to meet the moment
I learned every mother pretty much starts from scratch, and though some aspects of motherhood can be passed down, there is no correct blueprint for raising every child
I have come to accept my mistakes and shortcomings and gained a deeper respect for my own mother
Being a mother taught me I can not control everything, and the importance of trust and faith in positive outcomes
I experienced the greater connection between mothers and the stewardship of the planet
I learned to let go of that which I loved most in life so they could move into the world at large and have their own life experiences
Then I learned it was not really ”letting go”, but just moving over
At 70, I realize motherhood taught me more than I am yet aware of but am discovering still in my elder years…oh that I would have known then…as the saying goes!
