Politics and the Churchđź’Ş

WHEN POLITICS STARTS REWRITING YOUR CONVICTIONS, YOU HAVE A PROBLEM.

For years, Dr. Brian Long never felt the need to address politics from within the church.

Then something changed.

Over the past 8–10 years, he began seeing political ideology increasingly collide with—and sometimes take priority over—biblical conviction.

At some point, staying quiet becomes a decision too.

In Episode 2 of the Integrated Podcast, Dr. Long talks about recognizing that moment and realizing he could no longer avoid difficult conversations simply because they were uncomfortable, controversial, or potentially divisive.

For Christian men in leadership, this goes far beyond politics.

What happens when your faith costs you something?

Your reputation.
Your relationships.
Your comfort.
Your social acceptance.
Your business opportunities.

It’s easy to stand on conviction when there’s nothing at stake.

The real test is whether you’ll still stand when there is.

🎙️ Episode 2 of the Integrated Podcast with Dr. Brian Long — a conversation about faith, culture, leadership, conviction, and having the courage to address what you believe matters.

Train Speed! đź’Ş

SPEED ISN’T JUST FOR ATHLETES.

One of the first physical qualities we tend to lose as we age is speed and power — and that matters far beyond sports.

The Fast Leg Speed Drill shown here trains the ability to rapidly apply force into the ground while reinforcing sprint mechanics, coordination, rhythm, and stiffness through the foot and ankle.

Why should men over 40 care?

Because maintaining the ability to produce force quickly helps preserve the physical qualities that make you capable as you age — reacting, accelerating, climbing stairs, catching yourself when you stumble, playing sports, and continuing to move with confidence.

Strength matters. Cardio matters. Mobility matters.

But if your goal is performance, longevity, and maintaining your physical capacity into your 60s, 70s and beyond, don’t completely remove speed and power from your training just because you’re getting older.

The key is scaling it appropriately to your current ability.

You don’t have to train like you’re 25. But you should train so you’re capable at 75.

Train Hard + Crap Nutrition = Bad

TRAINING HARD DOESN’T GIVE YOU A LICENSE TO EAT LIKE CRAP.

One of the biggest nutrition mistakes I see—especially with busy, successful men over 40—is believing a hard workout somehow cancels out a poor diet.

It doesn’t.

You can train 4–5 days a week, lift heavy, do cardio, and sweat your ass off…and still completely undermine your results with what you do during the other 23 hours of the day.

A workout might burn a few hundred calories. A restaurant meal, drinks, mindless snacking, or an oversized “healthy” meal can replace those calories incredibly quickly.

And it’s not just about calories.

Food is part of your recovery strategy.

Quality nutrition provides the protein, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, and minerals your body needs to:

• Build and maintain muscle
• Recover from training
• Support energy and performance
• Maintain healthy body composition
• Continue performing as you age

Training hard and eating poorly isn’t balance.

Your training and nutrition should be working together—not fighting against each other.

You don’t need a perfect diet. You need a consistent one.

Do the basics — consistently — and results follow. 💪🏻

Start Yesterdayđź’Ş

The best time to start training was years ago.

The second-best time is TODAY.

In a conversation between Alex Hormozi and Chris Williamson, they make a point that applies perfectly to fitness:

The longer you wait to start, the harder starting becomes.

At 25, you may have fewer responsibilities, more free time and more room for mistakes.

At 45, 50 or 60? You may have a career, family, travel, stress, injuries and decades of habits competing for your attention.

But that does NOT mean it’s too late.

It means waiting another 5–10 years probably isn’t going to make it easier.

You don’t need to train like you’re 25.

You need to start where you are, build strength and capacity intelligently, and create habits that actually fit your life.

If you’ve been telling yourself you’re too busy, too old or you’ll start when life settles down, recognize that life probably isn’t going to suddenly become less complicated.

Start now. Start small. Stop whining about it.

Your 60-year-old self will be glad your 50-year-old self finally got moving.

Your Knee is Dumbđź’Ş

Knee pain isn’t always about the knee itself.

Sometimes the problem is the body’s ability to control the knee when outside forces are trying to pull it out of position.

This split squat is a movement optimization + reactive muscular control exercise. The super band pulls the front knee inward toward a valgus position, while the athlete actively resists that force and maintains good hip-knee-foot alignment throughout the split squat.

Why is this valuable?

Instead of simply strengthening muscles in isolation, we’re teaching the body to recognize, react to, and control unwanted movement under load.

This challenges the:
• Glute medius and other hip abductors
• Hip external rotators
• Quadriceps
• Adductors
• Foot and ankle stabilizers
• Neuromuscular control of the entire lower-extremity chain

For busy men over 40, stronger muscles are important—but strength you can’t control during real movement has limitations.

The goal isn’t to make every knee perfectly straight all the time. It’s to improve your ability to control frontal-plane motion and tolerate the forces you encounter during training, stairs, running, golf, tennis, and everyday life.

If knee pain keeps returning, don’t just chase the painful spot.

Test the movement. Identify what isn’t controlling the load. Then train it.

Where Marriage is Builtđź’Ş

Marriage isn’t built on the highlight reel. It’s built in the ordinary days.

In this clip from Episode 1 of the Integrated Podcast, Peter Blumert talks about something that applies far beyond marriage.

The wedding is memorable. The 5-year anniversary matters. The 10-year celebration is worth enjoying.

But those moments aren’t what build a marriage.

A marriage is built in the day-to-day grind of doing life together—the conversations, disagreements, compromises, responsibilities, setbacks, and seasons when things simply aren’t easy.

It’s learning how to walk through difficulty together instead of allowing it to pull you apart.

And there’s a lesson here for almost everything worthwhile.

Strong marriages. Strong bodies. Strong businesses. Strong relationships.

We tend to celebrate the milestones, but the milestone is usually the result of what happened on all the ordinary days nobody saw.

Balance & Scap Movementđź’Ş

If you want a stronger shoulder, don’t just train the shoulder. Train the entire system.

The one-arm, one-leg landmine overhead press combines several qualities that become increasingly important as we get older:

✔️ Unilateral strength — challenges each side independently and exposes asymmetries
✔️ Balance & stability — forces the foot, hip, trunk, and shoulder to work together
✔️ Scapular freedom — unlike pressing against a bench, the shoulder blade is free to upwardly rotate and move naturally around the rib cage
✔️ Core control — the offset load creates a rotational challenge you have to resist
✔️ Movement variability — gives your body another way to produce force instead of repeating the exact same patterns

For busy men over 40, strength training shouldn’t just be about moving more weight.

You want to maintain the strength, balance, coordination, and movement options that keep you capable for decades.

Variation isn’t about making exercises complicated.

It’s about giving your body more ways to move well.

Honestlyđź’Ş

Your metabolism probably isn’t the reason you’re not losing body fat.

For most people, a “slow metabolism” isn’t the primary problem.

The harder truth? We’re often consuming more calories than we realize.

A few bites while cooking.
Coffee loaded with extras.
Alcohol on the weekend.
Restaurant meals.
Healthy foods with large portions.
Snacks that “don’t really count.”
A disciplined Monday–Friday followed by an unchecked weekend.

None of these things are inherently bad. But they all count.

For busy executives over 40, this can be especially deceptive. Long workdays, business dinners, travel, stress and inconsistent schedules make it incredibly easy to underestimate intake.

You don’t necessarily need to track calories forever. But if you’ve been trying to lose body fat and nothing is changing, track honestly for a couple of weeks.

Not to obsess over food.

To collect data.

Because you can’t make an intelligent adjustment when you don’t know what you’re actually consuming.

Before blaming your age, hormones or metabolism, make sure the basics are actually aligned:

Awareness → Accountability → Adjustment → Consistency.

Do the basics — consistently — and results follow. 💪🏻

The Process is the Destinationđź’Ş

The medal was the icing on the cake. 🥉

In Episode 1 of Integrated, Peter Blumert shares the story of his wife, Erin, and her journey to becoming an Olympic bronze medalist.

Along the way, there were coaches who told her she would never amount to anything. People who told her she wasn’t smart enough. Obstacles, setbacks, doubt, and plenty of reasons to quit.

But those challenges became part of the process that shaped her.

That lesson extends far beyond athletics.

For executives, business owners, and high performers over 40, it’s easy to become obsessed with the outcome—the promotion, the financial goal, the stronger body, the pain-free shoulder, the next level of success.

But the outcome isn’t where most of the growth happens.

It happens in the process.

The early mornings.
The setbacks.
The uncomfortable conversations.
The failures nobody sees.
The decision to keep showing up when progress feels slow.

The achievement matters. But who you become while pursuing it may matter even more.
