I have immediate openings. It’s ok to not be ok but it’s not ok to suffer in silence. I keep seeing “mental health is real” and yes just like physical health is real. If you would see your P*P for joint pain, back pain, etc. why not speak to a licensed professional about emotional pain, overthinking, childhood trauma, substance abuse, single parenthood, etc. We are here to help! Please accept the help!

No one asked but here it goes:

What she said is inaccurate and harmful for so many reasons:

1. You absolutely SHOULD have a license if you are providing therapy. She is a life coach, nothing wrong with that but she presents herself as a therapist which is misleading to her audience

2. You do have to provide a diagnosis to insurance companies. This is true. However if you had a sprained ankle would you not want your doctor to treat you for said sprain? So why not be treated for anxiety, depression, trauma, etc. Licensed therapists create treatment plans specific to each client. A diagnosis does not mean you have to carry it for the rest of your life (ex. Adjustment disorder) nor does it mean you have to take medication. When I diagnose my clients, there is a criteria such as age of onset, duration and frequency of symptoms, etc. Diagnosing in our community is not the problem, being MISDIAGNOSED is!

3. You need a license but do not have to accept insurance. She said she doesn’t have a license because of insurance. I have clients who prefer not to use insurance and pay out of pocket due to high deductibles or other reasons

4. Having a license protects the patient/client. We are held to a standard ethically. You want your provider to follow ethical guidelines

5. She is a Dr. because she has a doctorate degree not because she is a medical professional. She can’t prescribe nor diagnose.

Listening to her was disappointing. I’ve had 7 years of schooling and 2 years post grad of clinical work that I had to complete, plus take a national exam to receive my license. It’s not easy, not everyone can do it however anyone can become a life coach 🤷🏽‍♀️ (again nothing wrong with coaching but put some respect on my license)

I have yet to see this woman have a roundtable with actual licensed therapists. She goes on these podcasts with interviewers who aren’t well informed about the mental health field. Ask yourself why??? 🧐
