Why I’m so PUMPED about MANIFEST this year:
I just got back from North Carolina, where I had the great joy & privilege of co-leading a Rites of Passage experience for young women, and initiating a new generation of Women Water Protectors.
For a week in the deep woods, our village/team of 13 “Big Sisters, Aunties, and Elders” held & honored 25 young women, ages 11-17, as they crossed over the beautiful & significant threshold into womanhood.
For days, we had ceremonies & celebrations- a Grief Ceremony and their first Red Tent, a Mikvah Water Immersion and a Re-Naming Commitment, Wilderness Solos and a Sacred Storytelling of the Song of Light- as we all “mended and tended the fabric of the feminine” together.
I got to co-create for these young women what I didn’t have as a young woman (but was fortunate to receive later in life), nor, as a daughter of immigrants, did my mother or my grandmother- a Rite of Passage, a sacred and ceremonial “time out of time” to acknowledge age-appropriate personal growth and aspirations, as well as acknowledge and release outdated behaviors.
I got to witness how these young women THRIVE in this kind of culture, navigating the new and sometimes turbulent emotional waters of leaving the comfort of family and home behind, and stepping into the embrace and expectation of sisterhood and community.

I also witnessed the complexity of emotions that OLDER WOMEN experience with this work- the mothers and grandmothers and blood-kin that trust us with their daughters & nieces for the week.
Yes, there is deep joy and gratitude that we are doing this,
but also a sorrow and sadness that this wasn’t there for them at that time in their lives.

And this is why I decided to make MANIFEST a women’s only experience this year.
Because women of all ages need these kinds of spaces.
To feel safe.
To feel seen.
To feel heard.
To be honored.
To share.
To shed.
To shine.
To step fully, consciously, intentionally, and powerfully into the NEXT PHASE of their life.
And this is precisely what we do in MANIFEST.
