** Meet Our Team**

What is your name?
Mary D.

What department do you lead?
Social Services

How long have you been with Burgh Care Center?
5 years

Why did you get into healthcare?
I chose to work in healthcare, specifically in skilled nursing, because I have a deep passion for serving the geriatric population. Our older adults have a lifetime of knowledge, wisdom, and experiences that we can all learn from. I have immense love and respect for my own parents, and that has shaped how I care for others. I believe every individual deserves to be treated with dignity, compassion, and respect—just as we would want for our own loved ones.

What is one fun fact about you?
I was an air force brat. I have lived in England and Japan.

What do you hope residents and families feel when working with your department? That they feel recognized as individuals whose thoughts, feelings, and concerns matter.

What is one thing families should know about your team?
Families should know that we will advocate for their loved one as if they were our own family. We strive to listen, communicate, and provide compassionate care while ensuring every resident feels heard, respected, and supported.

What does compassionate care mean to you?
Compassionate care means caring for someone with empathy, respect, and genuine understanding. It means making sure each resident feels safe, valued, and heard, while supporting both their emotional and physical well-being.

What is your favorite part of serving residents/patients?
My favorite part of serving residents is the relationships I build with them and their families. For me, this is so much more than just a job—it’s about making meaningful connections and being a source of support during important moments in their lives. I find great fulfillment in enriching the lives of others, and in return, they enrich mine as well.

What quote, motto, or phrase do you live by?
“It is what it is, but it will be what I make of it.”
