🎗️ July 26th: National Disability Independence Day

On this day in 1990, the Americans with Disabilities Act was signed into law, a landmark victory decades in the making. From the grassroots disability rights movement of the 1960s, to the 504 Sit-Ins of 1977 (including a 25-day occupation in San Francisco , the longest federal building sit-in in U.S. history), to the unforgettable 1990 Capitol Crawl where activists abandoned their mobility aids to crawl up the Capitol steps, this fight was won through relentless, visible courage.

The ADA changed what accessibility, employment, and public life could look like for millions of Americans. And the work continues: remote work, flexible scheduling, and virtual options have opened new doors for disabled people who've long faced barriers to traditional workplaces.

Today, we honor that history and recommit to building a world where inclusion isn't the exception, it's the standard. 💪

🌊 July 20th = Umi no Hi (Marine Day) in Japan! 🇯🇵⚓

Celebrated on the third Monday of July, this holiday gives thanks to the ocean for all it provides, and it's said to be the only national holiday of its kind in the world 🌍

A little history: the date traces back to 1876, when Emperor Meiji returned from a tour of northern Japan aboard the ship Meiji Maru, docking in Yokohama on July 20th. That voyage was memorialized in 1941, and the holiday became a fixture in 1996.

Bonus fact: Meiji Maru is Japan's only surviving iron ship and was the country's first-ever National Important Cultural Property (1978) 🚢✨

Three-day weekend, beach trips, and ocean festivals across the country, what's not to love? 🏖️
