North Branch Broncos had such a great spring season of sports that DPT-Lapeer is presenting two more Student Athletes of the Month for May before school ends this week!
Penelope McNutt, a junior co-captain on the track and field team, had an outstanding spring season. At regionals, she placed 1st in the 100m and the 4x100 relay, and 2nd in the 200m and 4x200 relay. Both relays set school records. Penelope qualified for individual states in all four of her events. History was made when the girls' track and field team ran away with both a BWAC and Regional Championship. This qualified the girls for team states as well, a first for NB schools where the team held their own and competed with some of the best. Before heading to individual states, Penelope placed 1st in the 100m, the 200m, the 4x100 relay, and the 4x200 relay at the Thumb Meet of Champions in Caro. Moving onto division 2 individual states, Penelope brought home a 5th place medal in the 100m dash and a 7th place finish in the 4x200 relay. Her coach states she is a great athlete to coach. We can’t wait to see what you accomplish in your senior year, Penelope!
Sophomore Dawson June had an awesome inaugural season of boy's volleyball for North Branch. He recently served 24 straight points in the final set against Mt. Morris for a final score of 25-0. On Max Preps, a leading website to HS sports coverage, Dawson is ranked number one for aces. The team had an impressive victory over Bentley/Atherton in three straight sets, advancing them to the regional semifinal match against Oakland Christian. They battled hard but came up short in three close sets. What an incredible first year of boy’s volleyball for North Branch. Dawson is a class officer, he is on student council, he is a straight A student, and he is in his second year playing varsity soccer as well. Dawson is a great example of what an all-around student athlete looks like!
DPT is so proud to round out the school year with two more amazing NB student-athletes!
