The Stages of Cervical Change 🤰
Preparing for childbirth involves understanding the incredible work your body does during labor. A key part of this process happens in the cervix.
This helpful infographic breaks down the two primary changes your cervix goes through as it prepares for delivery:
📏 Cervical Dilation: This measures how much the opening of the cervix has widened, measured in centimeters (cm) from 0 to 10. You need to reach 10 cm for the cervix to be fully open for birth.
📉 Cervical Effacement: This measures how much the cervix has thinned out, measured as a percentage from 0% to 100%. Before labor begins, the cervix is thick. As labor progresses, it thins and shortens.

Did you know? The journey from 0 cm to fully dilated is categorized into specific phases:
