Every once in awhile it’s good to look back and see how far you’ve come and we have been celebrating a few big milestones in the past few weeks. My team officially passed over 1000 cases awhile back but found the time to celebrate. We were also one of the first to put in the new Stryker Gold Knee implant which is a great option for patients with nickel sensitivity. Thankful for an amazing team both in the clinic and the hospital, and for my patients for trusting me. Excited for all that is to come.

Joint replacement isn’t what it used to be.

When many people hear “knee replacement” or “hip replacement,” they think:

Long hospital stay.
Severe pain.
Months in bed.

That’s outdated.

Here’s what modern joint replacement often looks like:

First — surgery is usually the last resort.
Many patients improve with:

• Weight loss
• Physical therapy
• Injections

But when surgery is needed…

Procedures can take around 60 minutes.
Total room time is often under 2 hours.

Most patients go home the same day.

Pain management is also different now.

Surgeons use multimodal pain control — meaning multiple medications working together — to reduce pain while minimizing opioid use.

Recovery timelines are clearer too:

• Remote/computer work: 2–4 weeks
• Manual labor: 6–8 weeks
• Full tissue healing: up to 1 year

The key?

Identifying the true cause (arthritis vs. bursitis),
and finding a surgeon you trust.

Joint replacement isn’t about “giving up.”

It’s about moving from chronic pain…
to active recovery.

Adam Wright, M.D. with POSMC and our CEO walk through this in a podcast explaining what families should realistically expect before, during, and after surgery.

”When God our Savior revealed his kindness and love, he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit. He generously poured out the Spirit upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior.“‭‭ Titus‬ ‭3‬:‭4‬-‭6‬

Merry Christmas Eve! Santa comes but once a year, and that’s already too much for our twins. Thankfully the excitement of our older girls overshadows the terror of the babies. Enjoy some family time, make some memories, and take pictures even when they turn out terribly because sometimes it’ll give you a laugh.

Happy to celebrate my little man today, the only boy of the bunch who keeps us laughing every day.
