We’ve been talking to our friends at Sendiks for over two years. They’re wonderful people!  It’s been kind of hard to get on their shelves, because they only have so much space, and they are loyal to their suppliers.  Last week, we had a breakthrough, for which we are grateful. Now Sendiks is making room for us too and their customers will soon be able to enjoy the unique benefits of Jake’s hot-steeped Peruvian Organic ginger. Our sincere thanks to the Balistreris for welcoming us into their family. -Jake

We thought they were ants crawling across the City Harbor Bridge. Turns out, they were people. Quick bite at the hotel, then off we go. We hop the ferry from Pyrmont Bay, heading toward Manly. As we pass Milson’s Point, we spot them. Tiny figures climbing the arch of the Sydney Harbor Bridge, not walking, climbing. This isn’t stairs. It’s the actual steel spine of the bridge. 440 feet above the harbor, a three hour climb. Ladders, catwalks, slow, steady step by step. And at the top, the Sydney Opera House, sitting right below you, and a view that stretches forever. Then, just like that, manly, waves rolling in, surfers dancing on the water, salt air, sun, freedom, Anne Marie takes off hunting beach glass. Little treasures for the grandkids, like she’s done 100 times before. Lunch, a little shopping, then back on the ferry, skyline glowing, opera house shining, and then Luna Park Sydney, a little strange, little eerie. We decided to let that one be back to Darling Harbor. Dinner, ice cream, city lights, and towering above it all, Crown Sydney, Sydney’s tallest, boldest, most modern statement. Another beautiful day. One more to go before heading home, so we’re going to make it count. Love. Health. Adventure.

Some travel days test your nerves before they reward your soul. ✈️😅

We arrived at Melbourne Airport feeling relaxed and ready for Sydney… until we discovered our flight was actually leaving from Avalon Airport… 45 minutes away. Cue the panic.

Our Uber driver transformed into something straight out of The French Connection — weaving through traffic like a movie chase scene — and somehow, against all odds, we made it just as boarding began.

By the time we landed in Sydney, our hearts were still racing… but then came peace.

We checked into the beautiful Woolstore 1888 Hotel — once a historic wool warehouse, now one of the warmest, artsiest boutique hotels we’ve ever experienced. Exposed brick. Massive timber beams. Giant industrial windows. History in every corner. Stress? Gone.

After breakfast at Social Brew, we wandered down to Circular Quay, hopped a ferry, and headed toward one of the most iconic buildings in the world — the Sydney Opera House.

But here’s the wild part most people never hear…

The design was almost rejected. One judge rescued it from the discard pile and called it genius. Architect Jørn Utzon never even saw it completed. The famous sails became one of the world’s greatest engineering puzzles. Estimated cost? $7 million. Final cost? $102 million. And Australians helped pay for it through lottery tickets.

From airport chaos… to harbor views, ferry rides, lunch on the pier, and finally a quiet afternoon just breathing it all in.

Sometimes the best adventures begin with the biggest surprises.

No itinerary. No pressure. Just a latte, a sunny Melbourne morning… and the decision to let the city surprise us. ☕🇦🇺

With no rental car and absolutely no plan, we jumped on public transportation and discovered something unexpected… sometimes the best way to experience a city is simply slowing down long enough to look out the window.

Kevin took the lead. Ann Marie became our fearless navigator. Carleen and I happily followed wherever the tracks led us.

And somehow… we found peace right in the middle of the city.

The breathtaking St Patrick’s Cathedral — a towering Gothic masterpiece that feels like Europe tucked into the heart of Melbourne. Built beginning in 1858 and over 70 years in the making, it stands today serving one of the largest Catholic communities in the Southern Hemisphere. Quiet. Beautiful. Exactly what we didn’t know we needed.

Then the water started calling…

So we wandered toward Docklands — sunshine, river views, modern architecture, public art, and that magical feeling of having nowhere to be except exactly where you are.

And the perfect ending?
Thai food… and a scoop of Vanchi gelato. 🍨

Because sometimes the best Love. Health. Adventure. starts with a latte… and nowhere to go.

We thought the biggest drama of the night would be the Broadway musical Anastasia…

Turns out… the real performance happened BEFORE the curtain even rose. 🎭😂

It started innocently enough…
An Italian dinner at Il Bacaro.
Beautiful atmosphere.
Amazing food.
One tiny problem…

The restaurant moved at the speed of a Victorian postcard.

By the time the bill finally arrived, we had LESS than seven minutes to make it to the theater… six minutes away.

So there we were…
running through Melbourne like our own lives depended on it…
trying not to become the evening’s actual tragedy. 🏃‍♂️💨

We made it inside barely in time.

Then came the next plot twist…

I stepped out for a quick restroom break…
came back…
and the lobby was EMPTY.

No crowd.
No ushers.
No clue where my seat was.

Panic.

Then suddenly…
Kevin appears like a Broadway guardian angel 😇
and guides me into the theater just as the lights dimmed.

And then…
everything changed.

The music.
The lights.
The beauty of the theater.
The curtain rising.

Chaos out.
Magic in. ✨

Sometimes the best nights at the theater start with a little drama of your own.

Love. Health. Adventure.

At the Australian Open, we expected to see world class athletes. What we didn’t expect was to be reminded what a human spirit is truly capable of. Finally, we were on our way to Rod Lever Arena, the heart of the Australian Open, a quick photo, a little shopping, then straight to the courts. The smaller exhibition courts were free, so we wandered in. What we saw first stopped us in our tracks. Two world class athletes in wheelchairs, playing with unbelievable skill and heart, absolutely inspiring. Next, arena, a pickle ball exhibition match, then Arnia Savileenka, practicing for her match with Elena, rabbakina. That was just the morning by afternoon we headed outside, Jumbotron’s music, crowds, cocktails, and one very amorous seagull. Perfect seats. That’s when we watched Alcarez defeat Zevrev in one of the longest, most dramatic matches of the tournament. Then, two days later, Alcarez wore down Djokovic to become the youngest ever grand slam champion, classic youth versus experience, this time youth one. And as the sun set over Melbourne, we walked home happy, knowing we hadn’t just watched tennis, we’d watched history.

“We went out for dinner in Melbourne… and somehow ended up in New York City.” 🇦🇺➡️🗽

Goodbye Cairns… hello Melbourne—and one of the fanciest Holiday Inns we’ve ever seen. Coffee and cocktails at check-in… TV everywhere… even bowling. Not your typical stopover.

We had time to wander, so we did what you do… got a little lost.
Stumbled into a whimsical Dr. Seuss Gallery Melbourne… where The Cat in the Hat lives on… and the story behind Dr. Seuss reminds you how one push can change the world.

Soon… the Kiwi Crew got hungry.
Green eggs and ham? Not today.

We landed at Henry and the Fox… a little food, a little laughter… a little Love. Health. Adventure.

And then… everything changed.

Police cars rolled in.
Fire trucks lined the streets.
Hot dog stands appeared out of nowhere.
Garbage everywhere. Streets shut down.

Lights. Cameras. Action.

Right before our eyes… Melbourne became New York City.

They were filming Empire City—starring Gerard Butler and Hayley Atwell.
An NYPD hostage crisis. A skyscraper under attack. Firefighters battling floor by floor…

And we’re just sitting there… a few tables away… watching Hollywood unfold in real time.

Only in Australia…
do you go out for dinner…
and accidentally end up in New York City.

Another unforgettable moment with the Kiwi Crew.
Love. Health. Adventure.

“Flying Over the Rainforest” 🌿

Today… we traded roads for the sky.

High above one of the world’s oldest rainforests… we drifted silently on the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway… floating over dense jungle, winding rivers, and misty waterfalls.
Quiet. Peaceful. Like a living postcard.

Midway… we stepped into the canopy.
A guided walk among ancient trees… where nature still writes the rules.
Carpet pythons. Flying foxes. Birdwing butterflies.
And somewhere above us… white-lipped tree frogs hiding in plain sight.

Then on to Kuranda…
A little art. A little culture. A little courage.

Because lunch looked like this…
Kangaroo. Crocodile.
(When in Australia… right?)

A scoop of ice cream at the station…
And then… the slow way home.

A scenic train winding through tunnels… over bridges… beneath the canopy…
Back down the mountain toward Smithfield.

Not rushed. Not loud.
Just… present.

Another day in paradise.
Floating above the rainforest…
and rolling gently back through it.

For Love.
For Health.
For Adventure. 🌿

They did not arrive for applause.
They arrived to be seen.

The call carried through the forest.
The chief stepped forward.
The warrior moved with intention.
The women answered with rhythm and grace.Sticks struck in unity—many hearts, one beat.

This wasn’t performance.
It was presence. A reminder that in Māori tradition, love is not rushed, private, or silent.

It is witnessed.
It is shared.
It is carried by the whole community.

Grateful to observe, to listen, and to learn.
