Are you ready to SHIFT
- thinking?
- systems?
- culture?
- spaces?
- energy?

SHIFT is designed as a Tier One Regulation Support Model. It is a train the trainers model based on Autism Level UP!’s ENERGY Regulation Framework. The base structure and principles of SHIFT have been piloted in K-12 classrooms as part of a US Department of Education Mental Health Service Providers Grant.

Why did we name it SHIFT? SHIFT embodies the process of regulation for all of us. When we define regulation in trainings or in writing, we always do so by saying, “Regulation is the ability to shift and/or maintain your energy, physiological state, and emotion to meet the demands of the activity and your individual energy needs for engagement.”

We are really excited about this offering and have been working to develop new bespoke materials to help you infuse ENERGY throughout your system. We’ve had Ra drawing for us and can’t wait to introduce you to the new cast of characters repping their ENERGY levels.

What’s next? We're gathering information from interested teams until 21 June. Comment "SHIFT" and we'll more information your way.

This is not a controversial statement.

Parents need to check their EOBs (Explanation of Benefits) if they are getting ABA.

I am hearing waaaay too many stories of Technicians not billing for the amount of hours they are with a child, and when they are in the home, they're just playing board games.

I am hearing waaaay too many stories of "supervision" by a BCBA happening by phone 1x per week....for someone with a high school diploma and 40 hours of observation.

This is rampant, and NOT the "medically neceesary" care they claim it is.

Please check your EOBs and report any billing discrepancies.

Photo of a really cool Minecraft block tower we made today to draw attention to the post.

Long Island families: summer IEE spots are open.

School’s almost out — and if you’ve spent this year feeling like something was missed in your child’s evaluation, you’re not alone. And you’re probably not wrong.

I’m Christina Beta, a speech-language pathologist with over 20 years of special education experience on Long Island. I specialize in Independent Educational Evaluations (IEEs) for social communication and pragmatic language — the areas school evaluations most commonly miss.

Because school evaluations often don’t capture:

✦ Your child may look fine at school — but you see what happens after. When she holds it together all day and falls apart at home, that’s exhaustion, not misbehavior. Evaluations rarely account for that.

✦ Passing a speech and language test doesn’t mean communication is easy. Schools test language in a quiet room, one on one — not in the cafeteria, a group project, or a friendship that’s quietly falling apart.

✦ A great test score can still mean something is being missed. When conditions are calm and controlled, many children do just fine. But school (life) isn’t calm or controlled.

✦ You’ve been told your child is fine. You know something isn’t adding up. Trust that feeling.

If your child has been told they don’t qualify, tested out of services, or is being called a “model student” while struggling at home — an IEE can give your family the full picture the school’s report didn’t.

Summer is the perfect time. Results in your hands before September — so the new school year starts differently.
