Most of us reach our peak bone density around thirty years old! However, we can do our best to maintain that density. Look at exercise that targets the whole body. These movements do not have to be high impact, but we want to partake approximately four times a week for around 45 minutes.

As in most cases when discussing great modalities of exercise, swimming can target the whole body and is excellent for most bodies. Being on a club team, such as volleyball or softball, can be a fun way to get moving. Wanting a more creative outlet? Rock climbing or yoga might be your outlet.

Making the movement enjoyable and accessible is the best way to set yourself up for consistency and success. This can be a great time to socialize, make new connections, nurture old connections, and get out in the community.

Summer is in full swing, so it’s the perfect time to get out and enjoy the great outdoors!🌴🌊☀ At Palmer Chiropractic Clinics, we believe in the healing power of nature and staying active. Here are some fantastic local spots to explore:

1. Ponce Preserve - Stretching from the Halifax River to the Atlantic Ocean, Ponce Preserve features elevated boardwalks, hiking trails, and observation towers that showcase the natural beauty of ocean dunes and wetlands.

2. Dunlawton Sugar Mill Gardens - A botanical garden featuring winding walking paths through lush tropical flora, a butterfly garden, and dinosaur-themed sculptures. The site is also home to preserved historic sugar mill ruins, offering a combination of natural plant exhibits and local history.

3. Spruce Creek Park - This 1,600-acre nature preserve offers scenic trails, a boardwalk, and an observation tower overlooking Rose Bay and coastal marshlands. Visitors can enjoy a public launch for nonmotorized watersports, shaded picnic pavilions, and a playground, making it ideal for outdoor recreation.

4. Smyrna Dunes Park - This site features over two miles of elevated, accessible boardwalks over the natural dunes with scenic overlooks of Ponce Inlet, beach access, a fishing pier, and dedicated dog swimming areas.

5. Blue Spring State Park - About 30 miles from campus but worth the drive, this park is home to a 72-degree natural spring that serves as a designated winter refuge for West Indian manatees. Visitors can enjoy a half-mile boardwalk along the spring, seasonal swimming and nonmotorized watersports, riverboat tours, and more.

Getting outside not only boosts your physical health but also improves your mental well-being. So grab a friend, enjoy the fresh air, and let nature rejuvenate your spirit. Don't forget to stay hydrated!

Meet Jacob Harden, D.C., one of our Faculty Clinicians. Dr. Harden graduated from the Palmer Florida Campus in 2014.

WHY DID YOU BECOME A DOCTOR OF CHIROPRACTIC?
I kind of stumbled into chiropractic. I always wanted to be in health care. And as someone who was active and had dealt with a lot of injuries, I wanted to be able to help people like myself without just telling them to stop doing the things they cared about. I moved to Florida in 2011 and found Palmer Florida purely by living in the area. I took a tour of the campus and knew immediately that this was a path that would give me the avenue I was looking for. I applied that night and the rest is history.

WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE FOR PATIENTS?
Be patient and ready for change. Most injuries take longer than we'd like and require temporary changes in our behaviors and lifestyle. Remember that being injured is an abnormal situation and may require you to break from your routine to get past it. The people that I see who do the best are the ones who are the most flexible and patient with the process.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT BEING A CHIROPRACTOR?
I'll never get tired of seeing someone get back to doing an activity they've been missing. It can be an athlete returning to sport or someone doing a squat or touching their toes again. The joy they have getting to do that again reinforces why I got into health care in the first place.

Dr. Harden practices Diversified, Palmer Package, Activator, Flexion Distraction, Graston/IASTM, functional range release, sports rehabilitation through active and passive care, blood flow restriction training, and functional range conditioning.

Spring and summer sports are back in full swing, and whether you’re hitting the baseball diamond, running track, or getting back on the soccer field, your body is being pushed in new ways.

With the increase in activity comes a higher risk of injury, especially if your body isn’t moving as efficiently as it should.
Chiropractic care plays a key role in helping athletes perform at their best. Proper joint mobility, spinal alignment, and nervous system function all contribute to better coordination and faster reaction times. When your body is in alignment, it doesn’t just feel better - it works better.

Spring and summer athletes commonly deal with issues like muscle strains, joint stiffness, and overuse injuries. These often come from repetitive motions, sudden increases in training intensity, or lingering imbalances from the off-season.
Chiropractic adjustments, combined with mobility work and targeted exercises, can help correct these imbalances before they turn into bigger problems.

Recovery is just as important as performance. Regular chiropractic care helps reduce inflammation, improve circulation, and support faster healing, so you can spend more time playing and less time sidelined.

Whether you’re a competitive athlete or just enjoying being active again in the warmer weather, taking care of your body should be a priority. Don’t wait until something hurts to address it.

Stay aligned, stay mobile, and make this your strongest season yet.
