Coach JT Tapias

Coach JT Tapias JT Tapias is a nutrition transformation coach. I’m Coach JT Tapias, creator of the Empty Your Bucket Plan. We're in this together.

I have owned and operated gyms for two decades, and during that time I helped hundreds of people achieve their fitness goals in a healthy, SUSTAINABLE way. With the explosion of online training, there are WAY too many fad diets on the market, and WAY too many online “Trainers” spreading ineffective, unhealthy “weight loss plans” to the detriment of people who truly need help gaining control of the

ir health and fitness. I created the Empty Your Bucket Plan and have watched it transform the bodies and lives of countless people in my gyms. More people need this plan than I can reach in person, so I’m excited to bring this transformational program to YOU from the comfort of your home. As a former professional athlete and lifelong fitness expert, I have the experience, skills, and training to provide a premier coaching service to you with the convenience of an online platform. I am as committed to you reaching your goals as you are.

One of the most recurring themes I’ve seen throughout my career as a weight-loss coach is this:

Most people struggling with their weight don’t actually understand what the real problem is.

They think it’s their appetite.
Their portions.
Their metabolism.
Their cravings.

But after 25 years of coaching people through transformation, I’ve found that the deeper issue is often something far less obvious:

Their life is disorganized.

Weight gain is frequently the downstream result of poor routines, unmanaged emotions, and reactive decision-making.

It starts with sleep.

Many people struggling with their weight stay up late night after night. They call themselves “night owls,” but often those late hours are spent scrolling, watching television, snacking, and trying to decompress or escape the stress of the day.

Then morning comes, they’re exhausted, and the cycle starts again.

Food works the same way.

They don’t decide ahead of time when they’re going to eat or what they’re going to eat. They simply wait until they’re starving.

And when hunger meets a lack of preparation, convenience usually wins.

Drive-thrus. Fast food. Processed snacks. Whatever is easiest.

Over time, highly palatable foods loaded with combinations of sugar, fat, and salt can strongly reinforce the brain’s reward pathways. Food stops being something you eat primarily for nourishment and starts becoming something you reach for whenever you experience friction.

Stressed? Eat.

Bored? Eat.

Celebrating? Eat.

Lonely? Eat.

Tired? Eat.

Food becomes emotional medication.

And eventually you’re no longer simply battling hunger.

You’re battling habits, environment, emotions, sleep deprivation, impulsivity, and years of conditioning.

That’s why telling someone to “just eat fewer calories” is incomplete.

Yes, energy balance matters.

But knowing you need a calorie deficit and actually building a life that consistently produces one are two very different things.

That’s where coaching becomes powerful.

Inside our coaching program, we don’t simply tell people what foods to eat.

We teach them how to organize their lives.

We establish structure around sleep.

We create consistency around meals.

We teach proactive food preparation instead of reactive eating.

We remove foods and environments that repeatedly trigger poor decisions.

And most importantly, we build accountability around the behaviors that create lasting transformation.

Because sometimes the weight isn’t the primary problem.

The weight is evidence of a life that needs greater structure, discipline, and intentionality.

If you read this and recognized yourself, I’d be happy to talk with you—but only if you’re genuinely ready to change.

I don’t work with everyone.

I work with people who are coachable, committed, and ready to invest in their transformation.

And yes, I’m a Christian.

I follow the Cross of Jesus, not the Red Cross.

This isn’t free coaching.

It’s paid coaching.

Because I’ve learned something after doing this for decades:

When people pay, they pay attention.

If you’re ready in your heart of hearts to stop managing the symptoms and finally change the patterns producing them, message me.

Let’s talk.

Back when I owned my gym, one of my clients was a physician.

I loved our sessions because while I trained him, I would constantly pick his brain about his patients, health, and especially human physiology.

One day, he told me something I never forgot:

“JT, if most people would simply lose the 35–40 pounds of excess weight they’re carrying, they would eliminate a massive percentage of the health problems they’re dealing with.”

After 25 years as a transformation coach, working both inside gyms and online, I’ve seen firsthand just how dramatically losing excess body fat and changing your lifestyle can improve your health.

I’ve had people walk through my doors struggling with type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, elevated inflammatory markers, digestive problems, metabolic dysfunction, cardiovascular issues, sleep apnea, chronic fatigue, and more.

Not every person changed.

But the ones who became serious about changing their lifestyle often experienced transformations that went far beyond the number on the scale.

And I’ve heard some version of this sentence countless times:

“JT, if I had known I could feel this good again, I would have done this years ago.”

That statement has always fascinated me.

Because human beings can become incredibly good at adapting to dysfunction.

Live with exhaustion long enough, and exhaustion becomes normal.

Sleep terribly long enough, and poor sleep becomes normal.

Live with headaches, digestive problems, aches, low energy, brain fog, or constantly feeling run down long enough, and eventually you start saying:

“I guess this is just what getting older feels like.”

No.

Aging is real. Our bodies change. But we should not automatically surrender every symptom of a neglected lifestyle to age.

I hear it constantly:

“JT, I’m getting old.”

“I’m already in my 40s.”

“I’m in my 50s now.”

“I’m in my 60s. What do you expect?”

Yet I’ve coached men and women in their 60s, 70s, and even 80s who are energetic, active, disciplined, mentally sharp, and living remarkably healthy lives.

Which brings me to something we rarely talk about:

Your physical health affects your mental health far more than most people realize.

We love talking about mindset.

“Think positively.”

“Change your thoughts.”

“Focus on the good.”

And yes, mindset matters tremendously.

But you cannot stand in a garden repeating, “There are no weeds. There are no weeds. There are no weeds,” while refusing to pull the weeds.

Eventually, the weeds take the garden.

The same is true of your body.

You cannot consistently deprive yourself of quality sleep, live dehydrated, eat poorly, remain sedentary, neglect exercise, and then expect positive thinking alone to compensate for the physiological consequences.

The condition of your body influences the condition of your mind.

Your mind and body were never designed to operate as two completely independent systems.

You can read every personal-development book.

Attend every conference.

Listen to every podcast.

Memorize every motivational quote.

But if you continually neglect the body God entrusted to you, eventually that neglect will affect how you think, feel, perform, lead, and live.

And for the Christian, this goes even deeper.

Your body is not merely something you are trying to make look better in the mirror. It is a stewardship entrusted to you by God.

You need your body to serve your family.

To lead your home.

To fulfill your responsibilities.

To work.

To minister.

To think clearly.

To endure hardship.

To accomplish whatever assignment God has placed before you.

That changes the conversation.

This isn’t merely about losing 30 or 40 pounds.

It’s about becoming a better steward of the temple God has entrusted to you.

So if you’ve read this far, don’t simply agree with this post and keep scrolling.

Do something.

Maybe you’ve been telling yourself for years:

“I’ll start Monday.”

“I’ll start when life slows down.”

“I’ll start after vacation.”

“I’ll start when work isn’t so crazy.”

Meanwhile, another year passes.

If you’re genuinely ready to take responsibility for your health, lose the excess weight, rebuild your disciplines, and become a stronger steward of your mind, body, and spirit, I’d love to help.

This isn’t about convincing everyone.

By God’s grace, my coaching capacity is limited, and I’m not interested in working with people who need to be talked into changing their lives.

I’m interested in the few who are finally sick and tired of being sick and tired.

The ones who have decided:

Enough.

If that’s you, I’m here.

But ultimately, nobody can make that decision for you.

Your health will change when your standards do.

It’s so interesting to me how nobody was concerned when you were overweight and unhealthy.

Nobody said a word when you ate fast food, never went to the gym, and carried around 75 plus extra pounds around your waist and your vital organs.

But lose the weight, start working out, eating properly, waking up one hour earlier, doing cardio, and getting lean?

Suddenly you’re “obsessed.” It’s “vanity.” You’re “taking it too far.”

And who usually says it?

- Those that aren’t willing to take personal responsibility for their own health.

- The perpetual procrastinators.

- The person who confused peace with comfort and now discipline seems like torture.

- The person who mitigates and numbs emotions with food.

It’s usually the person who is plagued with unresolved trauma and would rather continue to sink deeper into addiction with a cheap dopamine hit that comes from their favorite drug “SUGAR.”

The fact is, your discipline makes undisciplined people uncomfortable because it brings conviction to their own lives!

The person that had nothing to say to you when you were overweight, sick, and lethargic, should be completely ignored!

Don’t let their “Lifestyle” advice now, dictate your forward direction…

SUCCESS STORY
Being a coach is not always fun.

Many times, it requires saying things that you know won’t be well received.

Not because you’re harsh, uncaring, or pushing an agenda, but because you genuinely believe it’s what will serve the client best.

A coach’s responsibility is not to be nice at all costs.

A coach’s responsibility is to lovingly, tactfully, and truthfully guide people toward their desired outcome and ultimate well-being.

Sometimes that means encouraging.
Sometimes that means confronting.

Sometimes that means having difficult conversations that others are unwilling to have.

I had the privilege of working with Josephine some time ago, and it was incredibly refreshing to wake up to her text message this morning.

Messages like hers remind me why this work matters.

They remind me that while the battle is not always easy, it is worth fighting.

I hope her story inspires you as much as it inspired me.
