If there’s one thing on every new parent’s mind, it’s sleep. Swipe right for a few of my favorite tips to maximize your shuteye. (Spoiler alert, I intentionally left out the whole “limit screen time” bit, because we all know that’s not a thing when you’ve got a newborn.) 💤

Finally taking heed of my own advice a little here, and it feels good. Rest can take many different forms depending on the moment and person you’re talking to. Most recently, for me, it’s been resting from media. I’ve decreased my news consumption, which has had a notable impact on my mental health. (Highly recommended!)

I also really wasn’t feeling inspired to make content, so, I stopped for a bit. The hardest part has actually been trying to release any judgment that I have directed at myself for saying “not today.” But you know what, it feels great, and I’m going to keep listening to that little inner voice who knows what’s up.

Also, big props to all the people out there cranking out content on the regular. It’s A TON of work and most of y’all didn’t actually sign up to be content creators. So I hope you’re recognizing your efforts AND being gentle with yourself when you just don’t wanna.

MONDAY MOOD.

Next time you’re stressing over all of the things you *think* you absolutely must get done, stop and ask yourself these three questions:

1. Have I taken care of myself today?
2. Does this thing need to be done right now?
3. Does this thing need to be done by me?

So often, the arbitrary deadlines can actually wait. Start with yourself. You matter a hell of a lot more than those dishes ever will.

You literally hold the key to their whole damn pyramid. 🔑

While I innately understand how daunting this can feel, there’s also SO much power in it. Your voice, scent and touch are all they need to feel a sense of love and belonging. Your arms are their safe place and more importantly, the starting point for the secure attachment that they’ll carry with them throughout their lives and into their adult relationships.

As for the self-actualization, I would argue that they come into this world with that peg in place. Perhaps they’re actually here to teach us that bit. 🤷🏻‍♀️

TL/DR: Don’t overthink this. You are literally meeting every need of your baby, simply by being you and being there.🤍

I heard this quoted during the x interview on Unlocking Us, and it really stuck with me.

So often, as parents (especially of new babes), we feel this need to accomplish ALL OF THE THINGS, because that’s what we’re used to being able to do. Alas, this “manufactured pressure” (as I’m going to start calling it) isn’t helping us. Simply showing up each day for your child and keeping them fed, loved, and alive is QUITE the accomplishment. (It’s literally life-saving work!)

So let’s let go of the unrealistic expectations and start setting smaller, more doable goals for ourselves; shall we?
