What a fun time we had at the SOMC Pleasure Guild meeting at Casa Grande 🌮🌺‼️ Great food, wonderful company, and plenty of laughter made for a fabulous afternoon with these amazing volunteers.

P.S. Congratulations to Shelby on her winning bid‼️ Nancy, our fearless Pleasure Guild President, even had to prop Shelby up for a picture after she modeled those auction-winning flip-flops 🩴. Believe it or not, Jenny’s Jeep scored a couple of new dashboard ducks thanks to two of our thoughtful guild members too🐤. I’d say today’s meeting was quite a success - for all of us… including the Jeep 🚙.

SOMC Volunteer Services is so proud to have volunteer knitters and crocheters who graciously donate their time and talents through our Knit for Hope program, creating beautiful hats and blankets for our patients.

This afternoon, after receiving another collection of blankets that were ready to be distributed, I placed them on a cart and began visiting patient rooms. In each room, I introduced myself and shared the story behind our volunteer knitting program. One by one, patients smiled as they accepted these beautiful handmade gifts, offering heartfelt thanks as I quietly slipped back into the hallway.

Then I reached my last room. After I explained why I was there, the patient looked at me with the most sincere expression and softly stated, “But… I don’t have any money.” I smiled and assured her that no money was needed. I explained that one of our volunteers had lovingly made the blanket especially for her, and that it was hers to keep.

She immediately wrapped the blanket around her arms, held it close, and with tears in her eyes thanked me over and over. Then she looked at me and said, “I love this blanket… and I love you.” She even asked me to bend down so she could give me a hug.

As I walked back down the hallway, I couldn’t help but smile. I may have been the one delivering the blanket, but my volunteers are the ones who wrapped that patient in comfort, kindness, and hope. Their hands stitched every row, but their hearts are woven into every single blanket they create.

Today, one blanket warmed far more than a patient. It reminded me that the greatest gifts aren’t always measured in dollars. Sometimes they’re measured in yarn… in time… in compassion… and in the simple reminder that someone cared enough to make something with their own two hands, just for a stranger.

To every member of our Knit for Hope program… thank you. Today, your stitches became a hug 🖤.

The SOMC Volunteer Pawsitive Care Team hit the road today because when a request is made for our four-legged volunteers… we aim to please 🐾‼️

Today’s adventure took us to the SOMC Ironton Family Health Center, SOMC Ironton Family Practice & Specialty Associates, SOMC Ironton Pharmacy, and SOMC Ironton Rehabilitation, where Yeti and Storm shared plenty of tail wags, smiles, and unconditional love with our amazing staff.

Just when we thought our day was winding down, the Pawsitive Care Bat Signal lit up on the dash of Wrnglr (Jenny’s Jeep) 🦇🐾. A request had come in from SOMC’s Community Pharmacy Operations Manager requesting the possibility of one additional stop at the SOMC Specialty Pharmacy & Call Center in Wheelersburg. Jenny called Yeti and Storm’s mom, who was traveling just ahead of her on the highway, to see if they were up for one more mission. Without a moment’s hesitation, the answer was an enthusiastic, “Absolutely!” So one final stop to bring about a few more smiles was accomplished before our four-legged superheroes finally hung up their capes for the day.

It’s always a privilege to see the smiles that appear the moment our Pawsitive Care Team volunteers walk through the door. You know, some days the best medicine doesn’t come in a prescription bottle - it arrives on four paws with a wagging tail 🐾❤️.

Hi everyone… I’m Storm! 🐾

Today was my official debut as one of SOMC’s Pawsitive Care volunteers, and I got to spend the day with my big brother, Yeti. He told me I’d love it here… and he was right‼️

The first thing I learned? Miss Jenny has a secret drawer filled with salmon and tuna packets just for us four-legged volunteers. I have a feeling I’m going to remember exactly where that drawer is 🐟.

Then I spotted a basket of snacks sitting on the counter. Surely those were for me too, right? Well… not exactly. Apparently they’re for the two-legged volunteers. I may have tried to investigate anyway. A girl’s got to make sure quality control is up to standards 🤭.

Everywhere I went, people smiled, knelt down to pet me, scratched behind my ears, gave me hugs, and told me what a pretty girl I am. (I didn’t argue). I even earned a few extra treats along the way.

By the end of the day, I realized something important. Volunteering isn’t just about getting treats - although that’s definitely a perk. It’s about making people smile, brightening someone’s day, and sharing a little love wherever my paws take me.

I think I’m going to like this volunteer thing…A LOT‼️

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to go remind Miss Jenny to keep that salmon drawer fully stocked. A volunteer has to stay fueled for all those tail wags 🐟.

🩷 Love, Storm 🐾
