As a mother of two kids, between field trips, spirit weeks, performances, sports, testing, summer planning, and trying to wrap up everything…the month of May can feel like a sprint with no finish line. 🏃🏻♀️
As a child and adolescent psychologist, I see this “Maycember” energy show up as:
✅ More irritability or meltdowns
✅ Trouble focusing (even more than usual)
✅ Drops in motivation or shutdowns
✅ More parent-child conflicts
It’s not bad behavior. It’s overwhelm.
Your kids’ brains are juggling transitions, changes, and a packed schedule, without the structure that usually enables them to stay regulated.🧠
Instead of pushing harder, try scaling back where you can:
✅ Lower demands and expectations
✅ Allow more downtime, because it matters
✅ Add more transition warnings
✅ Schedule fewer commitments
✅ Focus on connecting with your child/teen
Sometimes the most helpful thing right now is more breathing room for everyone. 🧘🏻♂️
Save this post for the final stretch of the school year. 😎
