Black Cohosh (cimicifuga racemosa) aka Bugbane is a dappled shade plant we use in woodland themed gardens for their striking white flowers that repel bugs in the summer. Medicinally, the roots have been used for centuries across multiple cultures to help women bridge the gap and loss of Estogen during (the nightmare of) Menopausal changes. Combined with several other herbs πΏ to create potent synergy blends, Black Cohosh has helped numerous women find balance and relief from a variety of symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats etc. Like most medicinal herbs, the stronger and more they help, the more caution should be taken when adding it to your regime, especially for those with serious medical conditions such as liver or kidney disease or with a sensitivity to aspirin. It is also not recommended for those that are pregnant, nursing or plan to become pregnant.
I use the roots mostly in tinctures, because no matter how much I tried to balance the bitter in Teas..its just not a pleasant tasting root π and the extraction process is just epically stronger and better in alcohol.
The flowers are very cool and it is considered native to the US and wild crafted π butterfly magnets and I will have a few of these plants available for sale again in the Spring. In the meantime, if you are struggling with Peri, Menopause or Post Menopausal symptoms feel free to reach out. Even if a Black Cohosh blend isn't ideal for you, I have dozens of herbs just for women's health and all stages and for the occasional Moody Mare. And yes I only use Human, food grade, USDA Certified Organic ingredients for our pet blends too ππΏπΎ
Have a great Weekend!
