I'm excited to be joining the speaker lineup at the International Conference on ADHD this December in Baltimore, three days with clinicians, educators, parents, and individuals with ADHD who truly get it.

I'm co-hosting a Peer Support Group on parenting ADHD and protecting your relationship, and presenting The EMPATH Method for Taming Big Emotions, built from 20 years of clinical work and parenting three neurodivergent kids of my own.

Meltdowns aren't defiance, they're a nervous system that's overwhelmed.
Work with it first, then guide toward calm.

What's hardest for you in a meltdown, staying calm yourself, or knowing what to do next?

I'm a big fan of book clubs. This Thursday marks the inaugural online meeting of the Adhdkc Book Club, where we'll be discussing ADHD 2.0 by Dr. Edward Hallowell and Dr. John Ratey.

We'll talk about:
📖 The biggest takeaways from the book
💡 Strategies we've found helpful
❓ Questions it raised
❤️ Real-life experiences from our ADHDKC community

You don't have to finish the book to join, or even have started it. (Confession: we don't always finish the book in mine either, but we sure do enjoy the conversation!) 😄

Hearing other people's perspectives can be just as valuable, and your questions or experiences might help someone else. The more voices in the room, the richer the discussion.

📅 Thursday, August 6
🕖 7:00 PM (Online, Zoom)
RSVP here: https://www.adhdkc.org/event-details/adhd-book-club-august-adhd-2-0

Can't make it live? Our online forum has chapter summaries and discussion questions waiting for you anytime. We meet quarterly, and we'll introduce the next book soon. Join here: https://www.adhdkc.org/group/book-club/discussion

Grab your favorite beverage and spend an hour with fellow parents, adults with ADHD, educators, and advocates who get it.

Check out the Adhdkc Conversations podcast most recent episode with Coach Adam Tilove! As both a parent and a professional, I can totally relate to the wealth of knowledge he shares about smart kids who struggle .

Bonus: He shares ways to help stop the struggle. He's also written about it in his book Split Second. He'll be at ou, which he's also written about in his book Split Second.

We're lucky enough to have Adam lead our next Adhdkc parent support group meeting. It's online and free. July 14. 6:30 pm. Hope to see you there!

I love a good TED talk, as it is usually short, engaging, and packs a lot of punch that makes us pause and think. These TED talks would be great to listen on your own as a parent, or maybe even to listen to with your teen to spark discussion. As the mom of 3 boys, I'm most interested in #5 WHY I’M DONE BEING “MAN ENOUGH”

Which one peaks your interest?

When you’re parenting a teenager, you can use all the expert advice you can get. The teen years are such a confusing time not only for teenagers but also for parents who are trying desperately to let go so their teens can gain independence and learn to adult, all while hanging on for dear life, trying to protect their kids and keep them safe.

Rather than fumbling or guessing your way through these years with your teen, why not go to a place that’s brimming with free expert parenting advice?

TED Talks offer short (18 minutes or less!) easily digestible videos by a myriad of experts who may open your mind to a new parenting approach or perhaps a new, much-needed fresh perspective. Plus, some of these are SO funny and relatable!

It’s important to make informed decisions. We have a lot of data on SSRIs, including for use in children and teens. Therapy is a first line treatment for anxiety and depression; however SSRIs can be an effective tool when therapy isn’t providing sufficient benefit.
