What’s holding you back right now?

Compelling excuses are a trap. Because they have validity. My back was a completely acceptable reason to stop training the way I was used to. But I let my hyperfocus on something I couldn’t control blind me to everything I could.

Letting go of my old patterns and getting better at controlling the basics brought me back. Small changes to daily habits pulled me off a slippery slope and eventually got my back pain under control too.

Most people don’t realize that how they breathe is either supporting or working against everything else they’re trying to do.

Plateaued in the gym. Recurring injuries. Not sleeping well. Breathing patterns play a role in all of it.

Here’s what most people miss. The diaphragm creates the pressure that puts your core in a supportive position. Working on your core without addressing your breathing is like building a roof over a cracked foundation.

But it goes deeper than that. Shallow breathing keeps your nervous system in a low grade fight or flight state. Your brain starts making short sighted safety decisions to protect against threats that don’t even exist. Pain increases. Movement feels limited. Muscles feel tight.

Those tight hamstrings you’ve been stretching every day with no progress? That might not be tissue shortening. That might just be your brain saying that range of motion feels dangerous.

So before you add another stretch, another exercise, another program, maybe just try to breathe.

Five minutes a day can start moving things in the right direction. That’s where we start.

I did everything right. It wasn’t enough.

I was putting in the effort but kept running into the same roadblocks. The standard process wasn’t getting me where I needed to be.

What changed wasn’t a harder program. It was building a foundation that actually supported everything else.

Nervous system first. Simple habits. Foundation before intensity.

I still work at this every day. But I finally built something that holds up.

I don’t train anyone for the first 6 weeks we work together.

Motivation and intense workouts haven’t worked in the past because the foundation is off.

The foundation comes from the boring simple stuff we do every day.

After we get nutrition, movement, and stress management supporting the system then we will build on top of that.
