I can’t believe we’re going to have a first grader soon. 🥹❤️ This school year flew by.

One of the things I’m most grateful for is the flexibility that owning Balanced Kids gives me…the ability to be present for these big moments with my own family while also helping other families receive care in a way that fits their lives.

It’s an honor to care for your children while still being there for mine too. 💙

Did you know your child can close their eyes when applying eye drops? One of the easiest tricks is to have your child lay flat with their eyes closed, then place the drops on the inner corner of the eye. When they open their eyes, the drops flow right in.

It’s SO much easier than wrestling with your child to keep their eyes open in order to instill the drops.

My girl got a gross crusty pink eye after battling a cold with lots of congestion. She still fusses about the drops, but this trick makes the process much less stressful for both of us.

A Balanced Kids member texted me early that her little girl was dealing with intense nausea + frequent vomiting. She couldn’t even keep down a teaspoon of water without throwing up bile. No urine for hours. Miserable, exhausted, and dehydrated.

Did you guess the diagnosis?!

58% got it right 👏

The correct answer was Fifth Disease.
Also known as erythema infectiosum, this illness is caused by parvovirus B19… and no, it is not the same parvovirus your dog gets. 🐶🙃

This viral illness tends to spike in the spring and early summer months and often starts with:
🤒 fever
🤧 runny nose
😴 fatigue
🤕 headache
😣 sore throat
🍽 decreased appetite

Then many kids improve for a bit… before the classic clue appears:
🔥 bright red “slapped cheeks” 🔥
This is often followed by a lacy rash on the arms, legs, or body that may come and go for days to weeks.

The tricky part? Kids often seem BETTER right before the rash shows up…

The good news: it is usually mild and self-limited in otherwise healthy children.

Once the slapped cheeks or rash appears, your child is typically no longer contagious and can return to usual activities.

There is no specific treatment—just supportive care like fluids, rest, and comfort measures.

⚠️ If someone who is pregnant or immunocompromised has been exposed, they should contact their healthcare provider, as extra steps may be needed.
