**How I Chose to Rebuild**

Last week, I shared the story of how I broke.

Tomorrow, I'm sharing what happened next.

Healing didn't happen overnight. It didn't come from a vacation or a perfect plan. It came from small choices, quiet moments, and learning that I deserved the same compassion I gave so freely to everyone else.

If you've ever felt exhausted, burned out, or like you were running on empty, I wrote this one for you.

I hope you'll join me tomorrow. đź’™

**The Week That Made Me Realize I Couldn't Keep Going**

There was one week that changed the direction of my life.

At the time, it felt like everything I had worked for was falling apart.

Looking back, I can see it was the beginning of something I never knew I needed.

Tomorrow, I'm sharing the story I haven't been ready to tell until now—the week that broke me, the lesson it taught me, and how it became the foundation of Kayla Cares.

If you've ever poured everything you had into something and wondered if it was enough, I hope you'll read this one.

**The Small-Town Stories**

I thought I'd heard every story Gerry had to tell.

I was wrong.

A conversation with another client unexpectedly brought him back into the room—not through my memories, but through theirs.

Tomorrow, I'm sharing the stories I never knew. The stories of the businessman, the husband, the father, and the younger man who existed long before I was ever "the kid."

Sometimes the people we lose aren't finished teaching us.

Sometimes their story keeps finding its way home.

I hope you'll join me tomorrow for this one. ❤️

**🌙 Today in Kayla's Client Kitchen...**

**Creamy Chicken & Rice Casserole**

Some recipes feed your stomach.

Others feed your soul.

Tomorrow, I'm sharing one of the recipes that's made its way into the homes of several of my clients over the years. It's simple, comforting, easy to customize, and one of those meals that somehow makes a house feel a little more like home.

I can't wait to share it with you. Maybe it'll become a favorite in your kitchen too.

Last year on your birthday, I came in early to surprise you.

A cinnamon roll with a candle stuck in the middle. A funny birthday card. Steak bites for supper, just like you asked.

This year was different.

Today I visited your grave. I cried for a little while.

It’s funny how someone can only be in your life for a short time, yet leave such a lasting mark on your heart.

I miss our conversations. I miss hearing, “The kid’s here.” I miss your stories, your stubbornness, and the way you made everyone laugh.

Happy Birthday, Mr. Harms.

I hope wherever you are, you’re celebrating with a good meal, a little mischief, and watching over all of us who still think about you.

I miss you.

**🌙 A Special Bonus Blog Tomorrow...**

**The Client Who Built Me**

Some people walk into your life for a season.

Some quietly change the person you become.

Tomorrow, in honor of Gerry's birthday, I'm sharing the story of a man who started as my client, became family, and left a mark on my heart that time will never erase.

Even after he's gone, I still catch myself hearing his voice, remembering his lessons, and smiling when I think about being "the kid."

His story didn't end the day we said goodbye.

In so many ways, he's still building people.

I hope you'll take a few minutes tomorrow to celebrate his life with me.

**What Kayla Cares Has Cost Me**

Starting a business isn't just about what you gain.

Sometimes it's about what you're willing to give up.

Tomorrow, I'm sharing one of the most honest blogs I've written—the sacrifices, the sleepless nights, the missed moments, and why, despite all of it, I would choose this journey again.

I hope you'll take a few minutes to read it.

Kayla Cares LLC is Growing!

I’m looking to add a PRN to Part-Time Caregiver to the Kayla Cares team.

We currently have clients in Rapid City and Sturgis, while serving clients throughout the Black Hills. This position is perfect for someone looking to pick up extra hours, with the opportunity to grow into more consistent part-time hours as additional clients come on.

At Kayla Cares, we provide personalized, one-on-one in-home care. Our goal is to help clients remain comfortable in their own homes while treating them like family. I’m looking for someone who sees caregiving as more than a job and enjoys building genuine relationships with the people they care for.

Responsibilities may include:
• Companionship
• Personal care (including bathing, dressing, and hygiene assistance)
• Meal preparation
• Light housekeeping
• Running errands for clients
• Helping clients remain safe, comfortable, and independent in their own homes

Requirements:
• 18 years of age or older
• Reliable transportation with a valid driver’s license
• Ability to work independently
• Must pass a background check (certain offenses may disqualify applicants due to the nature of in-home caregiving)

Preferred Qualifications:
• Previous caregiving experience
• CPR certification

Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.

If you have a heart for helping others and think you’d be a great fit, I’d love to hear from you!

Send me a Facebook message or email your resume to [email protected].

Last year to this year.

Last year, Care-A-Ride and I shared a booth at the disability fair. I was proud to represent a business that believed in me before Kayla Cares was ever more than an idea.

I remember talking with people about caregiving, answering questions, and dreaming about what it might look like if I ever had a booth of my own. At the time, it felt like a long way off.

Yesterday, I was sitting behind my own booth.

Looking at these two pictures side by side brings up a lot of emotions. Gratitude. Pride. A little disbelief.

In one year, I went from sharing someone else’s table to welcoming people to the Kayla Cares booth. Not because I did it alone, but because people believed in me, encouraged me, answered my questions, and gave me room to grow.

I’ll always be thankful for where I started. Every chapter mattered. Every person who invested in me helped make this one possible.

I also just love what the Disability Fair represents. Seeing so many organizations, caregivers, advocates, providers, families, and individuals all come together with the same goal—helping people find the support they need—is something really special. It’s a reminder that none of us can do this work alone, and our community is stronger when we work together.

Honestly… I can’t help but already start planning for next year. There are things I want to improve, new ideas I want to try, and more ways I hope to connect with people.

I’m grateful to be part of this community, and I’m excited to see where the next year takes Kayla Cares. 💗

Good morning, everyone!

Today’s the day!

I got here early, got my booth all set up, and now all that’s left is to meet all of you. I’m not gonna lie—I’m a little nervous since it’s my first year with my own booth, but I’m mostly just excited.

I’m also really happy to be here alongside Dawn from Care A Ride this year. We’ve shared a booth before, but this year we’re here with our own booths side by side, and that’s pretty special.

If you’re at the disability fair today, come stop by and say hi! Whether you have questions about caregiving, want to grab a recipe or flyer, or just want to chat, I’d love to meet you.

🩷 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Let’s do this! Hope to see you there.

P.S. I have Stitch erasers, stickers, and a whole basket of hard candy. Even if you just stop by to say hi, I’d love to see you!
