Overthinking and overwhelm are not random… they’re your body trying to protect you.

There’s always a reason symptoms and struggles are happening. Every behavior makes sense.

There is a connection between self-doubt, overthinking and overwhelm and when you understand the cycle, you can do something about it.

Healing is possible!

If you struggle with overwhelm, watch out for this!‼️

You’re not meant to be going all the time and even when you think you’re getting rest because you’re on the couch or in bed, you could still be highly engaging and overwhelming the mind through scrolling on your phone, consuming content, planning things, solving things, worrying about things, etc.

What was intended as rest can still become hours of overwhelming your mind and then wondering why your downtime didn’t feel rejuvenating.

You may be on the couch but if your mind is still consuming endless information and stimulation, it hasn’t truly had a chance to recover.

Physical rest is important and needed but don’t forget about resting your mind!

Many people think the solution to overwhelm is simply doing less. Sometimes getting rest is all that’s needed… and sometimes there’s more going on that’s driving the problem behind the scenes.

You can get all the rest in the world but if your mind is overactive and filled with thoughts of pressure, stress, urgency, fear, anxiety and more, not only will you NOT feel rested despite having plenty of downtime, the feeling of overwhelm sticks around forever.

The nervous system will continue to be activated and on edge even while technically relaxing the body if the mind is overloaded with thoughts of pressure, approval, etc.

Getting out of overwhelm comes not only from rest but from addressing and healing the emotional patterns behind it.

You’ve heard it before - when the mind is overloaded and overwhelmed, just focus on the good and “think positive,” journal and write your feelings out, use better time management tools, do breathwork or meditation or talk to a therapist. Maybe you’ve tried most of them already!

It’s not that these practices are useless - sometimes they help to a certain extent but here’s why they don’t get you out of overwhelm:

➡️ can’t be applied in real time
➡️ add more pressure instead of reducing it
➡️ don’t help to process what’s coming up
➡️ requires you to hold it together alone

You don’t need more information or more to-dos! We are living in an age of information overload and most of us already know things we need to do but struggle with actually doing them.

What’s needed is REAL-TIME support.

What’s needed is daily guidance of someone who’s been there and run into all the familiar mental roadblocks of overwhelm and can help you process in the moment instead of overthink, take smaller steps and build self-trust through experience (doing, not just thinking!)
