Polycystic O***y Syndrome, or PCOS, is more common than you may think. Research shows that 1 in 10 women have PCOS. Swipe -> to learn more about PCOS and read on below!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
PCOS is an endocrine disorder that involves chronic inflammation and insulin resistance. If you've been diagnosed with PCOS, most providers will tell you to lose weight and cut the carbs. HOWEVER, this can lead to binge eating disorder, increased inflammation, a slower metabolism, and, in general, more harm than good!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Dieting, caloric deficits, macronutrient restriction, and waiting too long between meals to eat all stress the body out and signal to the brain that there is danger lurking. When there is stress on the body, there is also inflammation. Dieting and PCOS DO NOT go hand in hand!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Instead of dieting and restricting calories and carbs, it's better to...
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1️⃣ Eat regularly and consistently
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2️⃣ Eat high fiber, complex carbohydrates
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3️⃣ Eat FAT and protein as these are the major building blocks of hormones
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
4️⃣ Eat all the Omega-3s (fatty fish, walnuts, flaxseeds, chia seeds, fish oil supplements)
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
5️⃣ Manage your stress
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
6️⃣ Get at least 8 hours of productive sleep and practice good sleep hygiene

✨ CORPUS LUTEUM & PROGESTERONE ✨
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The corpus luteum is mostly responsible for progesterone production in the luteal (final) phase of your menstrual cycle. During the follicular phase (post-bleeding to ovulation), the lucky, chosen egg of that cycle is encapsulated by a follicle that protects and nourishes the growing egg until it is released from the o***y during ovulation. When ovulation occurs, the follicle breaks open and allows the egg to be available for potential fertilization. What's left of the follicle is the corpus luteum!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Did you know that people who do not ovulate will have lower progesterone production than those who do ovulate? It all goes back to the corpus luteum!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Essentially, your body is creating a brand new, tiny organ that secretes a very important hormone each month!! How wild is that?!

Are you missing your period? Not the "gee, I miss Aunt Flo" but more of the "where the heck is my period, already??"
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Hypothalamic Amenorrhea (HA; primary or secondary) is a very real issue many women suffer with. Those with primary HA have never once had a period. Those with secondary HA had their period and then it went MIA. Let's talk about secondary HA.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Secondary HA happens when there is disruption between the hypothalamus, pituitary, adrenals, and ovaries. Somewhere along the line, the connection gets cut. Most women who suffer from secondary HA find themselves stressed, both emotionally and maybe even physically. Athletes are often the victims of this condition as they are constantly overworking their bodies, potentially under-nourishing themselves, and are stressed due to the pressure of performance and perfection.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you're missing periods, you may or may not be missing them due to HA. So, what are some things you can do starting today to help you on your way to healing and getting your period back?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1️⃣ Exercise less - I know it's hard. But slow your roll and rest more
2️⃣ Eat more - counter intuitive to what society tells us. You need A LOT of nourishment to heal the connection that's been interrupted in your body
and
3️⃣ Activate your parasympathetic nervous system with deep breathing, pranayama yoga, getting out of toxic relationships, and again eating enough and exercising less

What's something you used to dislike about yourself but now love?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Random fact about me: I used to hate my middle name (Jean). Someone once asked me when i was very young if it was spelled like the denim pants we wear and I was so embarrassed that it was.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
How silly. I love it now. I actually kept that as my middle name instead of keeping my maiden name!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It's interesting to me how we can love and hate things about ourselves as time changes. Funny thing is, usually the thing we once hated and now love never actually changed - our thoughts and outlook changed. The view in which we saw or understood the very thing we hated changed so that we ended up loving it.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
How many times do you hear people say that they once hated thier b***s, butt, hips, etc. and now they love them? How many times have you heard someone say they hated that gap between their teeth but they not flaunt it in all it's gorgeous glory?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I guess what I'm trying to get at is that we hate something one day and love it the next, all because of the lense we see the thing through. Maybe finally finding love for ourselves is less about changing ourselves until we gain our own approval and more about changing the lense through which we see ourselves to one filled with more compassion, love, empathy, and encouragement.

You do you, boo boo.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Seriously though. Just because your partner, roommate, that random person on TikTok or Instagram, or your mom is working out today, doesn't mean you have to.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You are more than your body and your exercise routine.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Maybe today is a good day for a break. Especially if you are on your period! Give yourself a moment to breathe in life, and skip the gym, the run, the crossfit, the pilates, the barre class, the water aerobics.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You are worthy of love whether you move your body today or not. PERIOD.

As I near rounding the corner that is 30, I’ve been trying to take better care of skin. The number of times I’ve had sunburnt, crispy skin is shameful, truly. So, after searching for some skincare that is both affordable and still void of endocrine disrupters, I landed on .
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Not all their products are necessarily “clean,” so if that’s your thing, be sure to check out EWG’s Skin Deep Database where this Salicylic Acid Masque ranked as a 2 out of 10. In general, I love using the EWG for any sort of "reproductive toxicity" - basically just anything ingredients that may be harmful to my hormone harmony... say that 3 times fast!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Also, who doesn't love a good skin care routine?! Okay, maybe you don't love them, but for me, this is major self-care that makes me feel luxurious.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What skin care lines/brands are you loving right now?!
